The Exhibition: Creating a Non-Fiction eBook about Our Issue

For this assignment, you will be creating a non-fiction, informational book about your
chosen issue. You will then use the eBook-making website www.MixBook.com to create
and publish your book.
In order to successfully complete this assignment, please follow these steps and
guidelines:
1. View the example I created for you about Pollution:

2. Reflect: In your notebook, write what you thought about my eBook in general and
about each element I included (Here are some reflection ideas: Did you dis/like
it? Why? What did you think of the images I chose to include? Was the eBook
simple to understand? Did the Table of Contents help you as a reader? What
about the level of vocabulary I used? Were words too difficult to understand?
Was the glossary helpful?).
3. Create a draft:
a. Decide on chapters or headers for your book.
b. Decide what information to include under each chapter/header. You are
encouraged to use the Lines of Inquiry you created for your unit as your
chapters/headers. You may need to further break down the information in
order to ensure it is clear to understand and headers do not contain too
much information.
*** Approve your draft with your teacher before you move on!
4. Learn about MixBook:
a. Go to www.MixBook.com and create an account. Make sure you use your
school e-mail address.
b. View the tutorial of how to create MixBook eBooks:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncLuDGqGJzY
5. Create your eBook:
a. Decide on a template or create your own. When you are ready to begin
typing your book, go to the next step.
b. Begin your eBook by first creating only chapters/headers for each page
(You do not need to include anything else yet!). The following pages are
required:
i. Book cover (include a title, photo, your name, your school, and the
month/year)

ii. Table of Contents

iii. The chapters/headers you decided to include in your eBook.
iv. A Glossary
Once you are done with creating the skeleton for your eBook, begin
adding information to your chapters/headers:
Use the information from your draft to copy/paste information onto the
MixBook pages.
Add at least one photo, illustration, chart, or graph for each
chapter/header you create.
When you are done entering all the content, go back and create the Table
of Contents page.
If you still did not create your Glossary page, do it now.
When you are finished, give it one last read- from beginning to end.
Revise and edit as needed.
If you are happy with your eBook, have a friend read through it and give
you feedback using the Peer Editing Sheet.
If needed, make the necessary changes to your eBook.
Publish your book.
Send the URL of your book to me via our school e-mail.

GOOD LUCK! I HOPE YOU ENJOY MAKING YOUR FIRST eBOOK!
