NEW MEETING TIME AND PLACE

We will be at Gander Mountain at 9:00 a.m.

Gander Mountain
9923 Grant St.
Thornton, CO

Directions
Gander Mountain is a huge sporting goods store in the old Biggs, now Walmart Home
Depot shopping center just east of I-25 and south of 104th Ave. Just go in the front door
turn left on the first aisle and follow it down to the meeting room on the left.

March Meeting Recap

Bo Cottrell totally flaked out on us, it seems that rather than tell us about his Right to
Work measure he preferred to attend the El Paso County Assembly and gather signatures
for the petition to get it on the ballot. He hopes we aren’t mad at him. I told him not to
worry – just get it on the ballot.

Open Forum
So instead we conducted an open Forum. Topics covered:

1) The new California Supreme Court ruling that home schoolers need to be certified
teachers otherwise the children are now truant.
2) Senator Ken Gordon’s (D) bill that would allow online voter registration. You
may have remembered the Senator as Mike Coffman’s opponent in the last
election for the Secretary of State. He may well be appointed by the Governor to
fill Mike’s slot as SOS if he is elected to Congress. He sure holds some scary
ideas for a potential SOS.
3) The idea floated by the Dems that would allow only the political party that an
elected official was from to appoint people to fill a vacancy. This is currently the
case with State Representatives and state Senators but not with offices below the
Governor on a statewide basis or below the Commissioners on a Countywide
basis.
4) Ideas to make amending the State Constitution more difficult then amending
Statute.

A great round robin discussion was had by all.

New Digs
Most everyone loved the new digs. The space that Gander Mountain allowed us to use
(their community room) is light and bright.

NEWS ALERT from The Wall Street Journal - March 18, 2008
The Supreme Court heard arguments about the meaning of the Second Amendment and
the District of Columbia's ban on handguns. A majority of justices appears to support the
view that the amendment protects an individual's right to own guns, rather than linking
the right only to service in a state militia. But it is less clear what that means for the
District's 32-year-old ban on handguns, perhaps the strictest gun control law in the nation.
The case is likely to produce the most important firearms ruling in generations. A ruling
is expected by summer.
