Inside CC
Creative Commons
[1]
is pleased to announce the launchof a new division focused on education: ccLearn.
[2]
ccLearn is dedicated to realizing the full potential of theInternet to support open learning and open educationalresources (OER).
[3]
Our mission is to minimize barriers tosharing and reuse of educational materials — legalbarriers, technical barriers, and social barriers.*With legal barriers, we advocate for licensing ofeducational materials under interoperable terms, suchas those provided by Creative Commons licenses, that allow unhampered modification, remixing, andredistribution. We also educate teachers, learners, and policy makers about copyright and fair-use issuespertaining to education.*With technical barriers, we promote interoperabilitystandards and tools to facilitate remixing and reuse.*With social barriers, we encourage teachers andlearners to re-use educational materials available onthe Web, and to build on each other’s contributions.ccLearn will be in transition over the remainder of thesummer, 2007, reaching full operation this Fall. ccLearnis generously supported by The William and Flora HewlettFoundation
[4]
and is working closely with members of theFoundation’s Open Educational Resources Program.
[5]
Thisis an international project, and we will be working withopen educational sites and resources from around theworld.
