Government of Canada Gouvernement du Canada JAN 27 2015 ottawa, Canada c ‘The measures outlined in the presentation (Annex A) to Alberta Caveus last week ae now in lace. These transitional measures will help temporary foreign workers (TFWs) transition to permanent residency if they have already applied under the Alberta Provincial Nominee Program, (APNP), but have yet to have their immigration application processed because ofthe backlog in toe APNP. -Emplayment and Social Development Canada will now provide a one-time exemption these ‘workers ffom being counted under the cap on law.wage workers imposed on employer provided they mee strict criteria. This wll allow employers to apply for renewed Labour Marke Impact -Assesaments(LMIA), while their existing TFWs pursue permanent immigration, ‘Additionally, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will provides one-year bridging werk permit \o TFWs wi are subject tothe four-year curmlatve duration lit willbe exempt Eom the LLMIA process. This should provide some relief'to employers who have TFWs that have already ‘pplied for immigration and ae in the queue waiting for their applications ta be assessed, However, both ofthese measures are conditional on the federal goverment recsiving ‘confirmation from the Government of Alberta that they intend to nominate these individuals Under Alberta's Nominee Program and eligible nominees creating an Express Entry pref. Weexpect that these measures will help addres legitimate concerns that have been raised by employers in Alberta, but in no way undermine the intent or fll eompliance withthe T?WP changes announced in June. Yours incerely, Jason Kenney, P.C, M.P. ‘The Hon. Chris Alexander, P.C., MP. Canad
