Tony Redhouse is the winner of the 2009 "Best NewAge" Award for his CD entitled "Deep Within" fromthe Native American Music Awards. He hasdedicated most of his life to sharing his spirit withothers through his Grammy-nominated music, ceremonial hoop dancing, storytelling, inspirationalspiritual teachings, and meditations. In the ten yearsthat I’ve know Tony, I can attest that he is one personwho lives and breathes his connection with thedivine, allowing creative inspiration to flow throughhim in all that he does. As many of us, Tony hasn’t had an easy ride. He hasgone through his own struggles, battling throughalcohol addiction and several broken relationships. He spent a year in his home alone undergoingmedical treatment with chemo. He managed to carefor himself while taking a deep journey into his soul. Tony made it through the darkness into the light andwhat came out of the depths of his soul was hisaward-winning cd, “Deep Within”. He said, “Thismusic has had profound healing effects on many people.”I believe "Deep Within" was only made possible byTony's courage to surrender into himself and go tothe depth of his being, which is why his CD is havingsuch profound healing effects on people. When truthis exposed, it sparks and touches truth in others. Aswe go deeper within ourselves, reaching our core, everything we create reflects that consciousness. Iasked Tony several questions about his life journey, his own inspiration and who his hero is; read hisinteresting responses!

Q & A

Laurie: When you wrote your new award-winning CD, “Deep Within”,what was your inspiration?Tony: My inspiration for the CD came to me as I was undergoingmedical treatment from April 2007 to March 2008. During thischallenging and isolated time of "hibernation," I became acutely awareof my human frailty and the Spirit's unconditional love that embracedmy life during this journey within my soul. The simplicity of the musicin this CD reflects the essence and the core of my prayerful existencewith the Spirit during this season of life.Laurie: What a gift for you to have found that within yourself! Whathave been your biggest lessons that you learned during your year intothe dark side of your soul? Tony: During this dark season of my life, I learned to be gentle andtender with myself. I felt like that lone pebble in a rushing river of water that had fallen down into the dark, cold, abyss of obscurity. Ilearned then to intentionally go to that deepest part of the Spirit, and toremain in this place of refuge and safety.Laurie: Those were very big lessons you endured and it takes a warrior like yourself to surrender into that state. I commend you! But, what a blessing it is to be in the place you are in now. Who is your inspirationor hero? Tony: My inspiration is the many people who leave the "nests" of their comfort zone and attempt to spread their "wings" of intention, in order to find their true destiny and experience the "smile of the Spirit" ontheir lives. These people include the addicts in recovery that I work with that have the courage to let go of the only reality they have knownand to begin a healthy new life. They include the musicians whoexpress the truest song from their souls, and those who choose to loveinstead of judging another human being. My father is my hero becausehe chose to leave his homeland, his people and his way of life to createa family of creative "pioneers" who also share his vision of helpingothers to become free to reach their greatest joy.
