Director Notes for 2012 During 2012 the Directors have continued forwarding the expansion plans that have been formulated by the Church of Scientology International In summary the Church premises in Ascot Vale, Victoria, opening in tate January 2011, continued to deliver Church services at a high quantity and quality and has become a centre of community activities. AS 2 result of the expansion achieved so far and in the interest of further expansion the Directors resolved to incorporate the Melbourne Church separately, This was achieved and as of 1 October 2012 the Melboume Church was operating as a separate incorporated association, In alignment with the Church's expansion plans the Directors have been very much focused on establishing other similar Church premises in the major cities around Australia. Significant progress was ‘made during 2012 in fundraising for new Church premises, particulary in Perth and Sydney. In November 2012 Sydney Church building renovations were commenced and were completed early in 2014 to the standard of a model church. The renovated Sydney Church at 201 Castlereagh Street is ‘owned by a related church, Church of Scientology incorporated. ‘The new facilties include a large chapel which doubles as a public auditorium available to the community ‘a number or course rooms dedicated to our Life Improvement Courses including iteracy, relationships and communication; as well as facilites for our community outreach programs including drug education, human rights education, morals education as well as a base for our disaster response program which is one of the largest volunteer groups in the world ‘The Sydney Church also has @ multimedia information centre where people can find out for themselves who we are and what we do. People can walk in at any time of the day and take a self-guided tour through the displays to lear about Scientology. 3. Principal Activities ‘The principal activity of the Church during the financial year was the dissemination and practice of the religion of Sciontology which includes the delivery of religious services as the primary purpose. Fundraising activilies are conducted to enable the purchase of the Church premises to facilitate the practice of the Scientology religion to the benefit of the Church parishioners and the community. Short-term and Long-term Objectives ‘The company’s short-term objectives are to: = Increase the number of ministers trained in Scientology religious counselling = Increase the number of parishioners receiving Scientology religious services in Australia, ~ To open the newly renovated Sydney Church at 201 Castlereagh Street so that it can provide the full Church services envisioned by the religion's founder, L. Ron Hubbard. = To greatly extend the delivery of the Church's charitable programs in the community. The Church's long-term objectives are to: = Complete the renovations of all Churches of Scientology in Australia and bringing them to ideal ‘Church standards as envisioned by the religions founder, L. Ron Hubbard enabling them to provide all sorvices and community programs. ~ Provide support, financially and through volunteers, to social betterment programs that benefit the ‘general Australian public including drug education, human rights, literacy, disaster response and ‘moral education. To achieve its stated objectives, the Church has adopted the following strategies: = The implementation of fund raising activities to fund the purchase and renovations of Church facilities s0 thal the religious education and other religious services can be conducted for the benefit of alts parishioners and services to the communi = The implementation of training programs for volunteer staff so that the delivery of Scientology services is increased and in full accordance with Church scriptures. = The implementation of campaigns to distribute the Scientology scriptures to past, current and future parishioners thereby making available the full benefit of the Scientology religious philosophy and ‘scriptures fo the Church membership. 5. These financial statements are therefore special purpose financial stalements that have been prepared in order ‘to meet the requirements of the Corporations Act 2001. The company is a not-for-profit entity for financial reporting purposes under Australian Accounting Standards. ‘The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the mandatory Australian Accounting Standards applicable to entities reporting under the Corporations Act 2001 and the significant accounting policies disclosed below, which the directors have determined are appropriate to meet the needs of members. Such accounting policies are consistent with those of previous periods unless otherwise stated. The financial statements, except for the cash flow information, have been prepared on an accruals basis and are based on historical costs unless otherwise stated in the notes. Material accounting policies adopted in the preparation of these financial statements are presented below and have been consistently applied unless stated otherwise. The amounts presented in the financial statements have ‘been rounded to the nearest doilar. The financial statements were authorised for issue on 27 May 2014 by the directors of the company. Accounting Policies a Revenue Donations are recognised as revenue when received. Interest received is recognised when itis credited by the financi Revenue from the rendering of a service is recognised upon the delivery of the service to the parishioners. All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST). b. Property, Plant and Equipment Each class of property, plant and equipment is cartied at cost or fair value, less, where applicable, accumulated depreciation and any impairment losses.
