Lesson 1
StewardshipThe Grace of GivingII Corinthians 9:6 - 8 (8)Part IINTRODUCTION
: Money management is not so much a technique as it is attitude. And whenwe talk about attitudes we are dealing with emotions. Thus money management is basically self-management or control of one’s emotions. Unless one learns to control himself, he is no morelikely to control this money than he is to discipline his habits, his time or his temple.Undisciplined money usually spells an undisciplined person.Robert J. Hasting
I.THERE ARE MANY TYPES OF GIVERS AND MOTIVES
.A.
Different kinds of givers
. You have the following: tippers, who give a dollar or two.The Emotional giver. The Legal giver, gives for taxes or a way to get more from God.The Biblical giver, who gives the way the Bible says to give.B.
Different kinds of motives
. You have the following: Hope of a return. Fear of  judgment. Praise of men. Commitment to a specific project. Loves to give out of obedience.
II.TITHING IS BIBLICAL
.A.
It is part of the Old Testament responsibility before the Law
. Abraham, paid thetithe to Melchizedek, Genesis 14:18 - 20 before the Law was written. Jacob promisedGod that he would give God a tenth of all that God would give unto him (Genesis 28:20 -22). The people before the Law knew that all things belong to God and by “grace” theygave a tenth back, without a commandment from God through the Law.B.
It is part of the Old Testament responsibility after the Law
. Moses told the childrenof Israel that all the tithe is holy unto the Lord (Leviticus 27:30 - 33). Notice the word,“holy”. The prophet Malachi commanded that the tithe be brought into the storehouse or church (Malachi 3:10).C.
It is part of the New Testament responsibility
. Many people make the mistake of thinking they no longer have to tithe because we are not under Old Testament (O.T.)Law but living by the New Testament (N.T.) Way. But Jesus says differently. In Luke11:42, He says, “These ought ye to have done” talking to the Pharisees that tithing wasstill in effect. It is also the N.T. church’s responsibility by the tithe and offerings thatfull-time workers receive their livelihood (I Corinthians 9:7 - 14). Paul says the N.T.church’s responsibility was to give the tithe to the church on the first day of the week,Sunday (I Corinthians 16:1, 2).104

Lesson 1 (cont’d)
III.TITHING IS A CLEAR PART OF OUR SERVICE TO GOD
.A.
It is not a substitute for service
, II Corinthians 8:1 - 5. Tithing doesn’t make you to be in God’s will if you are not doing all the rest of what He commands; it is just a part of service, not the whole.B.
It is a matter of obedience
, John 14:15, I John 2:3. Failure to obey is sin (I Timothy6:10) “have erred from the faith”. The chief obstacle is getting people to obey (James4:17). Failure amounts to robbing God (Malachi 3:8 - 10).In the next lesson, Part II of Grace Giving, you will discover that grace giving is anexample to the world and our children, measures our love and obedience, that giving is an act of faith, it will help us have a proper view of this world and reminds us of what God has done for us.1. Money management is basically What?2. If someone is undisciplined with money, what does this usually spell or mean?3. What types of giving and motives are the best?4. Did men give a tithe before the Law? If so, how did they give?a.b.5. Does Jesus expect His people to tithe now? Is tithing still Biblical today?a.b.6. If we tithe and come to church regularly and not get involved, are we in God’s will, thinkingwe are doing enough by attending and tithing?7. Grace giving is a matter of what?8. If we fail to give by grace that which belongs to God, it amounts to what?105
