Lesson 1
StewardshipThe Grace of GivingII Corinthians 9:6 - 8 (8)Part IINTRODUCTION
: Money management is not so much a technique as it is attitude. And whenwe talk about attitudes we are dealing with emotions. Thus money management is basically self-management or control of one’s emotions. Unless one learns to control himself, he is no morelikely to control this money than he is to discipline his habits, his time or his temple.Undisciplined money usually spells an undisciplined person.Robert J. II.TITHING IS BIBLICAL
.A.
It is part of the Old Testament responsibility before the Law
. Abraham, paid thetithe to Melchizedek, Genesis 14:18 - 20 before the Law was written. Jacob promisedGod that he would give God a tenth of all that God would give unto him (Genesis 28:20 -22). The people before the Law knew that all things belong to God and by “grace” theygave a tenth back, without a commandment from God through the Law.B.
It is part of the Old Testament responsibility after the Law
. Moses told the childrenof Israel that all the tithe is holy unto the Lord (Leviticus 27:30 - 33). Notice the word,“holy”. The prophet Malachi commanded that the tithe be brought into the storehouse or church (Malachi 3:10).C.
It is part of the New Testament responsibility
. Many people make the mistake of thinking they no longer have to tithe because we are not under Old Testament (O.T.)Law but living by the New Testament (N.T.) Way. But Jesus says differently. In Luke11:42, He says, “These ought ye to have done” talking to the Pharisees that tithing wasstill in effect. It is also the N.T. church’s responsibility by the tithe and offerings thatfull-time workers receive their livelihood (I Corinthians 9:7 - 14). Paul says the N.T.church’s responsibility was to give the tithe to the church on the first day of the week,Sunday (I Corinthians 16:1, 2).104
