Challenge:

Your

TASK

is to create a gravity-powered transportation device that cancarry pennies across the ﬂoor.

Time:

You will have up to 5 minutes to use your IMAGINATION to create yourtransportation device. Your team will then have up to 1 minute to demonstrate yourgravity-powered transportation device.

Set Up:

On the ﬂoor of one side of the room is a ramp. There are materials you mayuse to build your gravity-powered transportation device.

Procedure:Part One

(5 minutes):• Use the materials to make a gravity-powered transportation device that can carrypennies.• You may test it using the ramp during this period of time, but the distancetraveled will not be scored.• You may practice adding pennies during Part 1.

However, by the end of Part 1,the pennies must be removed from the transportation device and placed back inthe cup, or you will receive NO SCORE for Part 2.

•You will be warned when you have one minute and when you have thirty secondsleft in Part 1.

Part Two

(1 minute):• Add the pennies to your gravity-powered transportation device and launch it usingthe ramp.• You may not alter the gravity-powered transportation device during Part 2.

Scoring:

You will receive:A. 2 points (20 points maximum) for each penny carried by your gravity-poweredtransportation device.B. 1 point (30 points maximum) for each inch (2.5 cm) traveled by your gravity-powered transportation device.C. Up to 30 points for how creatively you use the materials.D. Up to 20 points for how well your team works together
