RULES AND REGULATIONS OF PARTICIPATION
1. Participation is opened to MRSM students.2. Participation for each category is as follows :

3. The overall champion will be awarded a challenge trophy. If the samecollege retains the overall championship for three consecutive years, thetrophy will remain in their possession.4. COMPETITION GUIDELINES AND REGULATIONS
A. MATHEMATICS QUIZ
 
Mathematics quiz competition is one of the activities in theMRSM Mathematics Carnival. 
1. OBJECTIVESOF THE COMPETITION
1.1 To enhance critical, logical, and analytical thinking of MRSMstudents.1.2 To inculcate the interest in Mathematics subject.1.3 To instill in the students, the importance and beauty of Mathematics.1.4 To encourage the spirit of competition amongst MRSM students. 
2. COMPETITION CATEGORIES
2.1 Qualifying rounds will be conducted in written form and in private (no spectators). Every group of 4 participants each willanswer 25 questions within 60 minutes simultaneously. Studentsare allowed to use calculators. Total score will be based on the 4 participants’ accumulated points. 4 groups with the highest scorewill proceed to the final round. If there is more than one group inthe 4

spot, the group that will qualify for the final round will be based on the group standard deviation. If the standard deviation points are the same, decision will be made by comparing the 1
st
  participant points, followed by the points obtained by the 2
nd
  participant and so forth.
 
2.2 Mathematics quiz final will be held in public (with spectators).Each group will be represented by 3 participants only (the fourth participant is a reserve) and is not allowed to change participantwhile the quiz is in session. Questions will be asked orally and presented on transparency. Calculators are allowed during thequiz.
3. COMPETITION SCHEDULE
Schedules, time and venue will be determined by the host.
 
4. PARTICIPANT / PARTICIPATION
Open to all MRSM students. Each MRSM is required to send onegroup of Upper Secondary and
/
or one group of Lower Secondaryonly. Each group should consist of only 4 participants and themembers must be the same for both rounds.
5. QUESTIONS AND REFERENCE MATERIALS
5.1 For Upper Secondary Mathematics Quiz, questions are based onForm 4 Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, and Computer Science syllabus, history of Mathematicians, Mathematicsdiscoveries and puzzles.5.2 For Lower Secondary Mathematics Quiz, questions are based onForm 1 - 3 syllabus, general knowledge on computers, history of Mathematicians, Mathematics discoveries and puzzles.\5.3 Scope of questions are as follow :i) Numbersii) Relationsiii) Shapesiv) Computersv)General Knowledge\5.4 The quiz for the qualifying round consists of 25 questions (5questions on each scope in 5.3) and participants are required towrite down the answers only. All participants from each groupwill sit for the qualifying round simultaneously.5.5 The quiz for the final round consists of 15 questions. (3 questionsfrom each scope in 5.3). Every participant from each group willanswer the same questions. They are required to write the answerswithin a specific time on transparencies that will be provided tothem. 
6. COMPETITION RULES AND AWARD OF MARKS
6.1 QUALIFYING ROUND
a) Questions are in the form of written quizb) Duration of the quiz is one hour.

Participants who are late will be given the opportunity toanswer, but the duration is the same for all participants,that is, from the time set when the quiz commences.\
