 WHAT IS PLANTAR FASCIITIS?
Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of foot and heel pain. Itinvolves pain and inflammation of the tissue that runs along the bottom of thefoot connecting the heel bone to the toes. Plantar fasciitis is caused by biomechanical flaws in the foot that eventually leads to repetitive stress or microtrauma of the plantar fascia. e Mayo Clinic describes plantar fasciitis as “causing stabbing pain that usually occurs with your very first steps in the morning. Once your foot limbers up, thepain of plantar fasciitis normally decreases, but may return after long periods of standing or after getting up from a seated position.”Specifically the plantar fasciitis commonly involves the Plantar Aponeurosis, along tendon in the bottom of the foot, and two muscles, the Quadratus Plantaeand the Flexor Digitorum Brevis.
WHY TRADITIONAL TREATMENTS HAVE NOT PRODUCED LONGTERM BENEFIT FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Plantar fasciitis can be a frustrating injury for both the patient and the doctor, with traditional treatments providing mixed results. Historically, traditionaltreatments including anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, rest and ice havefocused on reducing pain and not correcting the biomechanical flaws associated with plantar fasciitis. A significantly higher level of improvement has been noted when the focus of care has addressed and corrected the imbalances and theirassociated biomechanical flaws.
