This paper looks at the interdependence between Asia Pacific and the Middle East on the issue of security of oil supply and demand. For Asian countries, forging relations with oil-exporting countries of the Middle East provides greater oil supply security. For the Middle Eastern nations, the relationship provides them with secure customers. The author also presents an overview of Asian economic growth, energy demand, and refined products requirements. The Middle East supply side is also analyzed. (This paper by Antonio M. Szabó, “Interdependence Between the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East,” was published as Occasional Paper 22. Boulder, Colorado: The International Research Center for Energy and Economic Development, 1994. ISBN 0-918714-43-5).
