This author focuses on the 1990s as the decade of the “oil deal.” While the 1970s was a decade characterized by vertical disintegration of the world petroleum industry and the 1980s as a decade defined by the financial deal, the 1990s represented a shift towards increased globalization and mega-deals in the energy industry. The author presents a number of cases of energy joint ventures in production, refining, and marketing. (This article by Antonio Szabó, “The Decade of the 'Oil Deal',” was published as Occasional Paper 15. Boulder, Colorado: The International Research Center for Energy and Economic Development, 1991. ISBN 0-918714-31-1).
