The first Quezon City Librarians Con-gress was conducted last February 22-23, 2007 by the Quezon City LibrariansAssociation Incorporated (QCLAI). Theobjectives of the congress were (1) Togain more knowledge on informationand communication technology (ICT)and (2) To be updated on relevant issuesconcerning librarians and informationspecialist. The resource speakers wereDr. Ofelia Carague, Director of the QCPolytechnic University, Ms. Flor Mallari,Head General Reference Services, UPMain Library, Dr. Lourdes David, Direc-tor of Ateneo De Manila University, Ms.Susima Gonzales, Pres. Of Philippine Li-brarians Association, Incorporated(PLAI).The keynote speaker was theHonorable Feliciano Belmonte Jr., whosponsored the Congress. The event washeld at the Hotel Rembrandt in QuezonCity. The QCLAI is under the leadership of Ms. Lucila Raquiño, Head of the Adminis-trative Services of the Quezon City PublicLibrary.Two of the prominent guests wereMs. Blanquita Del Barrio, the foundingPresident and Organizer of the Associationand the Acting City-Librarian of the Que-zon City Public Library, Ms. Cynthia DJ.Tolado.

ACTOR ROY ALVAREZ CONDUCTED“HEALTH AND WELL BEING”SEMINAR TO QCPL
Last January 5, 2007, the Quezon CityPublic Library was fortunate enough tohave a multi- talented resource speaker.He was no less than the actor, director,scriptwriter and environmentalist RoyAlvarez. Mr. Alvarez spoke about pollu-tion as a potent factor that brings aboutclimactic changes. For his concern wasto agitate the citi-zenry to plant moretrees so these treescan readily assumeto absorb pollutionthat abound the en-vironment. “SB” LIBRARY
The Honorable Mayor Fe-liciano Belmonte Jr., ap-proved the construction of a two storey building forthe largest and most mod-ern library in QuezonCity. This is along QuirinoHighway in Novaliches.The Good Mayor appar-ently, with the perceptionthat Novaliches is knownto have an immenselylarge population chose this site, so that it couldvery well cater to the horde of students and resi-dents of this community. Target date for comple-tion is on May 1, 2007.

NBDB DONATES BOOKS TO QCPL
The National Book Development Board had donatedbooks to the Quezon City Public Library. The NBDB un-der the stewardship of Atty. Andrea Pasion-Flores, itsExecutive Director had signified its intention to supportthe QCPL in its solicitation campaign. The books will bedistributed essentially to branch libraries situated indepressed areas tobenefit our lessfortunate brothersand sisters

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
This portrays how books are collected and acquired from
solicitation s and donations.
LIBRARY COLLECTIONENHANCED
From January 2007 to March 2007the Quezon City Public Libraryhave acquired a total of 9,401 vol-umes of books, either these aredonated voluntarily or donationsacquired from various entities.Purchases funded by the city gov-ernment have totalled to 511 vol-umes. This is undertaken to obtaina variety of references for the us-ers/researchers. Moreover, this isalso a vehicle to upgrade and up-date the existing library collec-tion.

LAUNCHING OF THE LIBRARY'S WEBSITEAND INTRODUCTION OF OPENBIBLIO ASTHE NEW SOFTWARE
Last January 22, 2007 the Quezon City Public Li-brary launched it's website and introduced theOPENBIBLIO software which replaced its previ-ous contracted software Polerio. Among thosewho graced this momentous event were AttorneyVictoria Loanzon (Special Assistant Secretary tothe Mayor), Councilor Bayani Hipol ( District IV),Ms. Tess Mariano (Head,SSDD), Ms. CharminiaBanal (Chair, Friends of the Library) and a repre-sentative of Ms. Frederika Rentoy (Head, EPWD).The Quezon City Public Library have un-dertaken this shift to advance its opportunity tointroduce significant changes towards what isfresh and current in technology. For the QuezonCity Public Library is in constant pursuit of inno-vative developments in technology and skills toaptly promoteadequate ser-vices in itsworkplace.

QCPL CELEBRATES PUBLIC LIBRARY DAY ANDWOMEN'S MONTH
Last March 9, 2007, the QCPL celebrated two events, Pub-lic Library Day and Women's Month. A GAD Forum, incelebration of the National Women's Month was under-taken in the morning, as the Quezon City Public Libraryinvited Ms. Helen Dabu a social worker from the CoalitionAgainst Trafficking in Women-Asia Pacific to speak on therelevance of R.A. 9262 which is the Violence AgainstWomen and Children. Meanwhile, in the afternoon a Pub-lic Library Day was celebrated to honor donors andbenefactors. The awardees were Ms. Charminia B. Banal,Chair of the Friends of the library and Ms. Blanquita DelBarrio, former City Librarian, both for manifesting their unconditional and unwavering supportto the Quezon City Public Library. Other awardees were C-I Philippines, Manila Bulletin, Bato-Balani, Philippine Bible Society, FNB, National Bookstore, Armando Ang, Bookman, PhoenixEducational Systems, Inc. and the Quezon City Medical Society all consistent book and com-puter donors.
