brochure
description: This is a two panel fold procure I created to advertising a 5k race on St. Patricks
Day for Brigham Young University Idaho.

date: March 28, 2015

Course & Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04, Ben Pingel.
program(s): Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
objective: Create a new logo to fit the holiday. Design a professional brochure to advertise the 5k
race. Use the basic tools of illustrator, photo shop and InDesign.

process: I began by looking for brochure designs using google images. After looking over layouts
I liked, I started sketching gout on paper the type of design and layout I needed for this project. After
sketching out a details blue print I began design my logo.

For the logo I was able to combine the holiday and running theme into it by creating running people and a
four leaf clover. After completing the logo I began creating a brochure design and layout. This took me the
longest. I would design as much as I could then stop and get professional advice on how I could improve
it, then I would improve on what I learned and then design some more and then ask for more advice on
how I could improve my design, I followed this process until I felt it was close to what I wanted.

St Patricks Day 5k Goals
HEALTH
At the wellness center we create activities and events that
will help you to become more healthy and active in your daily
living. This 5k is just one of the many events we have that help
encourage health and wellbeing. There is nothing better then
having a group of people supporting you as you are trying to
live and better and healthier life style. At the 5k race you will
have the opportunity to have that encouragement and support.
FUN
As you can see on the brochure, we have a blast at the St
Patricks Day 5k races. You can dress up to support the holiday
and get fit at the same time. You will enjoy the company of
other students who are all there to have great time.
OPPORTUNITIES
At the St Patricks Day 5k we need lots of volunteers to help
manage and run the event. We provide each volunteer with
unique responsibilities and training that will help you develop
skills and abilities to become more employed and do what you
love. Also, volunteering will help you prepare for other positions
in the wellness center that will help you prepare for grad
school and your future health career.

Our St Patricks Day 5k race is every semester,

the Saturday before St Patricks Day, at 9am.
If entered into the race, you will start
at the BYU Idaho track in the stadium
and run a mapped out route around
the university. There will be prizes for the
best-dressed and best time. Come get
lucky by running in the St Patrick Day 5k.

description: This is a simple webpage designed to present the companys logo.
date: March 14, 2015
Course & Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04, Ben Pingel.
program(s): CSS and HTML
objective: Create a professional web page to promote the companys logo. Use CSS and HTML
add color and shape to the webpage text and layout

process: My inspiration for the final project came from students in the Communications lab and

from researching popular web site layouts of up to date web pages. I started with the back ground. I
wanted something that would look more modern and refreshing. After looking at other websites I found a
picture of a city that matched the color of my logo. For the text I added bold to the titles to help the reader
understand the start of each list. I also figured out how to change the opacity of the body background. I
added in the correct program and then changed opacity to allow the image of the city to appear through
the CSS body background.

date: February 1, 2015

Course & Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04, Ben Pingel.
program(s): Microsoft Word
objective: Design professional event ad for a fundraiser using Microsoft word.
process: I looked through a running, swimming and biking magazine. After scanning the photos and

importing them into word, I used words fading effects to blur the edges of the pictures. I added the photos
first than after that I find a way to fit in the text. For the text I put it behind the orange shapes in white to
make it stick out. The color for my add came from the pictures. Without trying most of my picture turned
out blue, which turned out perfect for the logo of BYU Idaho. I added the rusty orange on the edges to
help blended the right look of colors.

the wheat field.

with the back ground of the sunset.

Course & Instructor: Comm 130 Section 04, Ben Pingel.
program(s): Adobe Photoshop
objective: Demonstrate good photography and image editing skills
process: For the First photo I was a little difficult the sky was very gray. But I was able to add some

good color tones in photo shop. Foreground and background, I wanted to focus in and out with the picture
and flower, and I fill I was able to do an okay job. I was able to apply the camera foreground and back
ground function. For the rule of thirds I was able to find the metal sculpture in the Spori building I was
able to line up the shadow and line on the picture with the rulers on the camera. And for the Lead photo I
use the stature of President Benson looking off the left to create a good leading message.
