Abstract
Background
Veryfewstudieshaveevaluatedtheadverseeffectofpassivesmokingexposureamongactivesmokers,probablyduetotheunprovenassumptionthatthedoseoftoxiccompoundsthatasmokerinhalesbypassivesmokeisnegligiblecomparedtothedoseinhaledbyactivesmoke.
Methods
Inacontrolledsituationofindooractivesmoking,wecompareddailybenzo(a)pyrene(BaP)dose,estimatedtobeinhaledbysmokersduetothemainstream(MS)ofcigarettestheyhavesmoked,tothemeasuredenvironmentaltobaccosmoke(ETS)theyinhaledinanindoorenvironment.Forthisaim,were-examinedourpreviousstudyondailypersonalexposuretoBaPofthirtynewsagents,accordingtotheirsmokinghabits.
