Dr Stephen Sussna and
Operation Dragoon
On January 19, 2010 Dr.
Stephen Sussna started the
Book Club off with a lecture on
Operation DRAGOON, the
invasion of Southern France by
the Allied forces under the
direction of General
Eisenhower. This operation,
originally scheduled to
commence on June 6, 1944
together with OVERLORD, was
postponed, and, if the British
had their way would never have
taken place. Churchill stated
that DRAGOON was the
appropriate name for the
operation, because he was
"dragooned" into it against his
will. The operation was hugely
successful, and had the
potential to end the war months
earlier, if not halted by General
Eisenhower. Anyone interested

FDR's Deadly Secret

This lecture is one that no one
should miss. Dr. Stephen
Lomazow, a practicing Neurologist
with a thriving practice, has written
an exciting medical detective story
about a medical condition of
President Roosevelt that has been
long suppressed. Dr. Lomnazow
has made an exhaustive study of
all the available material relating to
the subject and has concluded that
FDR suffered from a deadly
malignant melanoma, and that this
condition was deliberately withheld
from the public with the connivance
of his closest medical and political
advisors. At Yalta, 2 months before
his death on April 12, 1945 FDR
was incapable of making decisions

that have had far reaching and
harmful consequences for the
United States as well as the
Western World. Lomazow's book
posits intriguing medical/legal
questions concerning a patients
right to privacy, and whether a
doctor's duty to his patient not to
disclose medical information,
trumps the vital security concerns
of the nation
Lomazow's book was published
early this year and has been
extensively reviewed in The Wall
Street Journal, the New York Times
and other prestigious publications.
The History Book Club has selected
the book this month. We are very
proud to count Dr. Lomazo among
our members. He has not missed a
single meeting. If there are any
other authors amid our ranks we
would love to hear from them.
We expect a large crowd for the
lecture on February 16.

careers of 4 of our members to be
related by their relatives or the
veteran personally.

discuss his acclaimed book At War
With The Wind which is about
Japanese Kamikazi fighters.
June 29-Elizabeth Norman will
return with a lecture on her book
We Band of Angels,
September 21 We will have a
lecture by Jonathan Gumz,
distinguished professor of History,
and faculty member of West Point
Military Academy. Professor Gumz
will discuss some unusual and little
known facts concerning Operation
OVERLORD, the D-Day invasion.
October 19- We are fortunate to
have engaged the services of
distinguished author and historian
Thomas Fleming who has written
over 40 books. He will talk about
his popular and widely read book
FDR's Secret War. You will be
treated to many rarely known facts
about what went on behind the
scenes in Washington during World
War 2.
November 16- No program
presently scheduled.
December- No decision has
been made as to whether there will
be any program or function in
December.
Membership and Dues
We are pleased to report that
we now have 50 paid in
memberships. Those who have not
as yet paid are urged to do so. As a
reminder dues are $25.00 per year
per person. $30.00 for a family
living in the same household.
We have generated several
hundred dollars from the sale of
donated books, and extra donations
from some of our members. We
remind members that we urge them
to donate books [we will come to a
members house to receive them]
which are offered without charge
with a request to make a donation,
which most members gladly do.
Name Tags
Thanks to member Eve
Morawski we now have name tags
for all paid in members. Those who
paid their dues at the last meeting
will have a name tag available at
the next meeting. Thank you Eve.
Incidentally, Eve is still interested in
chairing a program on Poland in the
Second World War. She keeps us
posted on the situation, and we
expect to hear from her in the future
about this interesting facet of World
War 2, largely overlooked and
forgotten.
Volunteers
We are interested in having
members volunteer to work, or to
chair a program, Anyone who has
any interest in suggesting a
program or chairing one please
contact us. For Example we had
Rob Gagnon chair the January 19
meeting, and Dr. Ralph Kristeller
will chair the meeting June 29th.

Many of us purchase books on
the internet. If you want to
comparison shop we recommend
that you take a look at

htm. This is a wonderful site which
incorporates about 9 of the major
book sellers in the country. You will
find that most sites are a good deal
cheaper than those sold on the
better known sites such as
Amazon.
News Letter and Privacy
Members should notice that
their communications from the
Book Club do not contain the
address of other members. We do
not "bulk mail". We have devised a
system where we can send notices
to everyone, almost at the same
time, but with only the address of
one member appearing.
North Jersey Civil War and
Revolutionary War Roundtables
Anyone interested in the Civil
War or Revolutionary War
Roundtable can contact Rich
Rosenthal at (973) 267-9075. Each
Roundtable puts on outstanding
programs. Rich is an active
member of our Book Club and has
been extremely helpful in providing
advice on how to organize a club,
run meetings, and most importantly
how to communicate with
prospective speakers and arrange
for transportation, hotels and
meals.

Hosting Programs on
World War 2
For anyone interested in other
programs or lectures dealing with
World War 2 we recommend that
they consult The Center for World
War 2 Studies and Conflict
Resolution. Brookdale Community
College in Monmouth County
regularly holds courses and
sponsors lectures. Anyone
interested can call 732-224-2315.
The Center is under the direction of
Paul Zigo, a 20 some odd year
Marine veteran and frequent
lecturer. This is just a partial list of
the lectures currently offered and
the subjects:
The Russian/German war; The
U.S. Army Replacement System
[the "Orphans" of the War; "The
Code Talkers" {Navajo Indians];
and Women Pilots of the Second
World War.
All these programs are being
offered in February and March of
this year. There is a small
admission charge.
Book Club Web Site
 Arrangements are being made
to create a web site which we hope
will be in operation within one or
two months. Lectures are now
taped and will be available on the
site.
