The more we grow, the more frequently we field thequestion, “why isn’t your company openon weekends?” The answer could be long,but here’s the short version. We (Russ &Erica) work hard to make sure that wehave time to spend with our family. Intothe indefinite future, we have no plans tooffer evening or weekend hours. It’s notthat we don’t value your business. We do,immensely. But we also value our kidsand we want enjoy our time with them. elcome to our 2008 Catalog & Website. First, thank you for a great year in 2007! As ever, Golden Witchcontinues to evolve as a company and 2007leading into 2008 has been no exception. Erica& I strive to blend our business interests with your needs as our fellow rodmakers and customrod aficionados. We continue to enjoy thefact that we reorganized GW as a mom & popoperation a few years back. We’re also certainthat this is beneficial for our loyal clients so weplan to remain small, focused, and pertinentto you and your needs. Having no employeesbut ourselves allows Erica & I to take fullresponsibility for everything we make for andsell through Golden Witch and we take a lotof pride in doing things right. We’ll be thefirst to admit that we’re not always the leastexpensive option and sometimes it takes us afew days to ship custom products during peak season, but we feel these points are well offsetby the fact that each order receives our personalattention. This year you’ll find that our productline has remained fairly stable. In short, we’vedetermined which products we can make and/or resell with only two bodies doing the work. We’ve added some new agate colors, includingGreen Lace in 9mm & 10mm, and Yellow Banded in 11mm. There are three great new books on classic rods that have been printedsince our last catalog was produced. And, afternearly two years of work (initial filming took place in early 2006), we are pleased to announcethat Tightline Productions, LLC has releasedthe new two-DVD opus on which collaborated:The Graphite Fly Rod, How to Build a ModernClassic. Running well over three hours inlength, this DVD set goes into far more detailthan any other graphite rodmaking videoavailable. The theme of The Graphite Fly Rod ishow modern rodmakers can take the centuries-old classic aesthetic which originated with split-cane flyrods and apply that aesthetic to modern,graphite blanks. Every single step of the rodbuilding process is captured and steps requiringprecision workmanship are demonstrated withclose-up videography. The DVDs are organizedinto 29 chapters on everything from finding thespine to executing feather inlays, so it’s easy for you to locate and repeatedly watch those steps which most challenge you. While obviously geared toward synthetic rodmakers, our cane rodclients will want to make the small investment inthis DVD set because it is filled with rodmakingtips that didn’t make it into our previouseducational DVDs. If you’re considering ourGraphite Rod Building class, this DVD set will give you a small taste for what a week inthe shop will be like! Speaking of classes, ournext available classes will be scheduled in thesummer of 2009. Don’t hesitate to contact usfor more information. We’veused these flags to highlight the countries in which ourproductsare crafted,allowing you moreinsight whenmaking yourpurchasingdecisions. As moreof ourcompetitorsmovetheir massproductionfacilitiesoverseas, we’re staying home to support American Craftsmen and to keep a direct andimmediate eye on the quality of componentssuch as our reel seats and other nickel silverhardware. In the case of our agate strippingguides, we make them in the GW shop - that’slocal! This said, any top notch flyrod doesrepresent the global marketplace in which we’reproud to participate when that market supportscraftsmen and women making components orsupplying raw materials that are without parallel. You’ll find bamboo from China, cork and gripsfrom Portugal, and pure silk dyed and wound inEngland.
