THE BAKE SALE

Name_____________________

How can we make the best decision given certain constraints?

The students in the Service Club have run a few bake sales and have collected some data based
on what prices they charge and how many baked goods they sell. At the end of the night, when
everything is free, they can give away all of them items, all 300 of them. When they charge $0.50
for an item, they usually sell about 250. When they charge $2 per item, they usually sell about
100.
1) Write a function that represents how many baked goods the Service Club will sell as a function
of the price.

2) Write a function that represents how much money the Service Club raises as a function of the
price.

3) What price should the Service Club charge for their baked goods to raise the most money?
Explain how you know.

4) Rewrite your function from #2 in the other two forms.

5) We did not take into consideration how much it costs to make the baked goods. On average, it
costs the service club $0.50 to make each item. Write a new function to represent how much
money they raise, based on this inclusion.

6) On the graph below, graph both of the profit functions.

7) Rewrite your function from #5 in the other two forms.
