Candidate running for AZ Secretary of State. Primary date has been changed from Aug. 31 to Aug 24, 2010. Discussionabout validity of signatures. Cited military, business andgovernment experience; former chair of Maricopa CountyDemocratic Party. Important to keep elections fair & honest;consumer protection. Reviewed LD30 voter demographicsand issues. Reviewed voting patterns LD30 & statewide.[Handout and DVD provided.] Covered the duties of Secretary of State: Chief Election Officer; Consumer Protection; Streamline Business Functions; Transparency inGovernment. Ensuring SoS resources from Phoenix are madeaccessible to the rest of Arizona. Q/A topics: How to dispelrumor/assumption that if the governor is a Democrat, that theSec’y of State has to be a Republican? Need to fix state gov’t.Had a small real estate firm (mostly residential). Runningtraditional; requested donations; in 2007-8, DPS interdicted 6xnumber of guns & cash than in the 8 years prior due to smarter  policies and tactics being applied; need to create policies to get people here legally and humanely; tax code needs revising;

Alex Mich gave the report. We have a current balance of $ 1,838.32.One outstanding check for $200, quarterly contribution went to PimaCounty headquarters, has not been cashed/posted.Motion to accepttreasurer’s report passed.Chair’s Report

PCDP Executive Committee Mtg: current balance around$19,000. Anonymous challenge grant of $15,000 to donate to party for facilitating headquarters to prepare for upcomingelection year. Grant expires 1/30/2010. Suzanne requestedthat they hold the $200 we sent so it will be matched. We canchoose to take our remaining quarterly contributions as other districts have chosen to do. County Fair coming up (April 15to 25

). April 17 (Saturday) is our assigned day; signup sheetsare available for volunteers.
 November State Committee Mtg: Two-fold Interestingmeeting in Kingman; local support increasing; major piece of  business: 6 vice chairs, 3 men and 3 women; Sharon Coveywas elected to take Mohur Sidhwa’s place; all 3 of the menresigned and need to be replaced. We need to ensure all statereps attend or send proxies for the 1/23/2010 meeting; DavidOlvera from LD30 is running.
Leroy Dyson made a motionto pre-pay our remaining$600 quarterly contributionsto the County party, asstipulated in our 2010 annual budget, on or before Jan. 302010, so it would be matched by the anonymous grant.Motion seconded by DavidHosea. Henry Johnsonsuggested we focus our individual contributions onthe local and state level rather than national; expressed theneed for monies to stay local.After motion to closediscussion, Vera Berkmancalled the question which passed unanimously.

Election/Campaign Strategic Planning committee needs toform and meet: suggestion to meet on a Tuesday or Thursdayevening. Suzanne encouraged us to walk precinct(s) after upcoming meetings; Dorothy and Henry Johnsonrecommended inviting independents and Democrats to a house party to meet candidates.
