been excavated in 1981 and moa and seal bone werethere with an oyster shell dated 1220-1420 (95% probability).Recent studies reveal that 90% of the midden has eroded and hadcockle and pipi shells and fire cracked rock through it. The koiwiwere uncovered by erosion and the safety of these are of greatconcern to our hapu. We wish to have these koiwi investigatedfurther. We also want the area protected while the stand downperiod is observed and indeed, until there is a place to re-inter thekoiwi on the island.

is 5 pits, 3 of which are approximately 2 metres long andare under 1m wide running in an east west orientation. The limitedinvestigations require further study. Once this whole area is studied,this may be a suitable re-internment wahitapu.Kia ora,
