The main concern this month will be moisture– plenty of water will be needed for your gar-den.All those vegetables will be producing sowatch out for summer insects. Thrips are aparticular menace.Lightly prune roses and dead head to encour-age more flowers. Also disbud chrysanthe-mums. February is the main month to plantbulbs.Fruit harvest begins this month. Keep thetrees well watered to swell the fruit size.Grape vines need to be trimmed before finalharvest and covering with a net to prevent thebirds from eating all those grapes.

CLASSIC POWER BOAT CLUBMEETING
To All Boaties: Remember when boat racing wasrelatively simple. Get out on the water, race atspeeds of 50-60mph and sometimes more if youwere lucky to have a hydroplane. Costs wereminimal and it was a fun family orientated week-end with tall tales of how close the racing wasand if the track was a little longer I could havepassed you. Not many helmets, life jackets andOSH in those days.Just some of the clubs that were around 40years ago in Northland, included Kaitaia, Bay ofIslands, Otamatea, Whangarei and Horeke. Any-one out there remember these, we would love tohear from you .A few like minded people are looking to start aClassic Powerboat Club in the Northland areawith plans to expand further afield. There is in-terest from as far away as South Island but weplan to organise our own backyard first with afew fun days over the year with a chance to getyour boats out on the water for a spurt.Anyone interested in more information and get-ting into the race game at ground level we arehaving a meeting to discuss our options andmaking this idea a reality. Time to stop the talk-ing and get doing. All information and ideas wel-come.Contact Julie or Steve on 09 439 1559 or 0274854 788 or email classicboats@slingshot.co.nzfor more details.
