RESOLUTION 03

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITILED A RECCOMENDATION FROM THE


STUDENT BODY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT
PEMBROKE TO THE CAMPUS POLICE THAT THE PARKING PERMITS
FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2009-2010 AND HENCE FORTH SHOULD
HAVE AN EXPIRATION DATE NOT TO PRECEDE THE 31ST OF
SEPTEMBER.

WHEREAS, during the first Student Issues Forum in September 2009 students expressed
the desire to have parking permit expiration dates extended until after
financial aid refund checks have been distributed; and,

WHEREAS, the Traffic Control Board has already discussed this issue but could not
come to an appropriate solution, and;

WHEREAS, parking permits are necessities for the students of the University of North
Carolina at Pembroke since they cannot park on campus without them; and,

WHEREAS, according to the Bursar’s office electronic refund checks for the Fall 2008
semester were sent to banks on September 8th; and paper refund checks for
Fall 2008 semester were mailed to recipients September 9th; and,

WHEREAS, according to the Bursar’s office electronic refund checks for the Fall 2009
semester were sent to banks on September 8th, and paper refund checks for
the Fall 2009 semester were mailed to recipients September 14th; and,

WHEREAS, according to the Campus Police of the University of North Carolina at


Pembroke 1,630 parking tickets were issued to students in the Fall semester
of 2008, because of failure to register; and,

WHEREAS, according to the Campus Police of the University of North Carolina at


Pembroke 2,746 parking tickets were issued to students in the Fall semester
of 2009 because of failure to register; and,

WHEREAS, only 1,717 parking permits were sold to students in the fall semester 2008;
and,

WHEREAS, only 1,565 parking permits were sold to students in the fall semester 2009;
and,

WHEREAS, parking permits for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke can cost
anywhere from $50-$100 depending on time and lot classification;
therefore, let it be
RESOLVED, that the Campus Police for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke
extend the date of current parking permits until September the 31st 2010
and from there on mandate that all parking permits are not to expire before
September 31st of any given year.

I hereby certify the foregoing resolution was read twice and adopted by consent in
the Senate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke Student Government
