Tournament was held Saturday morning, December 12, at the magnificent Ocotillo Golf Resort, one
of the top golf venues in the Phoenix area. The purpose of the event is not only to raise funds for
the non-profit CCSA, but also to reach out to the local communities and to raise awareness of the
Chinese language and culture.
The golf tournament was a great success. Sixty golf enthusiasts of diverse background teed off
in the fundraising tournament to support the Chinese school, including those who traveled from
Fountain Hills, Sedona, AZ and from California and Texas. Many players are returned players
from previous tournaments. The event provided a place to meet new and old friends and buildup
their friendships. In addition to the major sponsorship from Arizona’s Vision (Dr. Mark J. Page)
providing their leadership in this fundraising event, other business, institutional and individual
sponsors include (in random order) CS Financial Services, LLC, Farmers Insurance (Andrew
Pariva), State Farm (Aileen Baldwin), Desert Dwellers Realty, LLC (Gary Chen), Chinese Art
Academy, Capital Investment Counsel, Golfsmith, StarBucks, Arizona Chinese United
Association, etc also provided their wonderful support to this event. In tough economic times,
Team and individual awards were presented at the post-game luncheon and award ceremony by
Dr. Mark J. Page. The perfect combination of fantastic weather, beautiful sceneries and water
features, and incredible course condition produced surprisingly low scores and tournament records
at the challenging Ocotillo. With an impressive score of 65 (7 under-par), the First Place Team
trophies went to Bing Rong Jiang, Shen Zhang, Fabio Sanchez, and Xiongwei Rei. The longest
drive winner was Beverly Ellisten. Charley Grady, Justin Johnson, and Scott Kovesdy won the
Closest-to-Pin awards. Tuan Tram grabbed the Longest Putt award. The highest-scoring team with
a score of 98 won the special Most Potential Team award.
