Instead, take a look at making the next step in your career one that is a good match for who you are now.1.Make a list of all the jobs you have ever had, paid and unpaid.2.In a column next to this list, write your favorite parts about each job.3.In a third column, write your least favorite parts about each job.Here are some ideas:

Benefits
The skills you like to use
Close to home
Large organization
Smaller organization
One or multiple bosses
Manage people or not
Work with others
Work on projects
Creative
Speak in public to represent the organization
Doing sales
Travel frequencyEtc.You will begin to see patterns of what pleases you most at work. Narrow this down to five to sixpreferences.
Informational Interviews
Tell every human you come in contact with what you are looking for. Here is a script to use –“Hi,I am looking at the next move in my career. I would like to throw around some ideas because I may notwant to do the exact same thing again."Assure the person that you are not asking for a job!“I am looking for something that has these qualities. (Tell your five or six preferences). What kind of a jobmight be a match?”Then be silent and listen to the suggestions.
