Future growth of the industry is expected to be led by risingspends on entertainment by a growing Indian middle class, regulatory initiatives,increased corporate investments and the industry's dynamic initiatives to makestrategic structural corrections to grow. In addition to the Indian middle class’enhanced spends projected towards entertainment, the rising global interest inIndian content is expected to fuel growth in this industry.With this focus, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) requested KPMG to initiatethis study on the key sectors: films, television, music and radio, highlighting itspotential and key trends to be expected with sharing insights on developments,impact and opportunities.The report, an initiative under CII's

Over the past few years, CII has organised major events,EnterMedia 2002, CineMint 2003, India Pavilion at Cannes Film Festival 2003 and2004, Film Bazaar at the International Film Festival of India 2002, 2003 and 2004,in addition to various delegations to film markets and festivals, workshops, andinteraction with Central and State governments on policy.The spend on entertainment in India is significantly lower than most advancedcountries, yet the growing middle class exhibits a greater propensity to spend onentertainment, when we consider the entertainment spend as a percentage ofper capita spend. As the Indian economy grows, the rest of the population ismoving towards a higher standard of living. It is this growing consuming classwith the propensity to spend that will drive the growth of the Indianentertainment industry.The entertainment industry in India has the potential to be the next 'sunrise'industry and is undergoing significant changes. Increasingly, the Indianentertainment industry is being influenced by international trends anddevelopments.
