1.Weathering. On the top of the cliff biological weathering is active. The rootsfrom the plants will grow through the rock and push it apart, although thegrass is insignificant compared to the huge chalk cliff, it has a small effect onthe cliff but will contribute to the top of the cliff crumbling into a fall. Chalk isalso soluble in water and when it rains, some chalk will be dissolved andwashed away; this is called solution. Freeze-thaw or mechanical weatheringmay also be active, the rain water will flow into the cracks and freeze atnight, when water freezes it expands and pushes the rock apart making thesmall crack much bigger.123
