February 9, 2010Jonathan TasiniJonathan Tasini for US SenatePO Box 302 New York, NY 10040Dear Mr. Tasini:I am in receipt of both letters and regret that you do not believe that I have addressed your core issues. However, a much larger question remains as to why you would write such letters in the first placeattacking New York County’s endorsement process given your silence on Senate endorsement processesthat have already taken place for months. Your claim, for example, that you would like to halt New York County’s endorsement process because itis “undemocratic, non-transparent” and a “backroom-deal process” is powerful rhetoric until one realizesthat fifty six endorsements have already taken place in the United States Senate primary dating back months, and you were mute when they occurred. In fact, I am unaware of one instance where youquestioned any of the fifty six endorsements even after they were made. In response, you write that you“certainly
intend
to push for open, transparent, honest debate,” (emphasis added) but the incontrovertiblefact is that you haven’t. In fifty six instances you did not challenge their processes, results or motivations.Such inaction on this issue fifty six times prior to New York County’s endorsement exposes you to thesame charge that you level at New York County; of acting only in your own “self-interest.” That chargeof self-interest gains much more credibility when our endorsement process is an open one and invites youto speak
before
an endorsement will be made, where other counties assuredly did not ever afford you thatopportunity. To be sure, political self-interest by a candidate is acceptable and understandable. However, what is not acceptable is for you to impugn the integrity of New York County’s endorsement process asundemocratic in the name of the people when your true motivation may be simply political self-interest.Again, to ensure that I am not missing anything, I ask you the same question that you avoided answeringin my first letter: please send me copies of any strongly worded letters like the one you sent to mechallenging any of the prior fifty six United States Senate endorsements as “non-transparent,undemocratic” and backroom deals. Further, please provide examples of where you were ever permittedto speak before such endorsements took place. Your utter silence on this key point speaks volumes.
