Applicants may wish to consider the filing of an Intemational application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). An intemational (PCT) application ‘generally has the same effect as a regular national patent application in each PCT-member country. The PCT process simplifies the filing of patent applications on the same invention in member countries, but does not result in a grant of "an international patent” and does not eliminate the need of applicants to file aduitional documents and fees in countries where patent protection is desired. Almost every country has its own patent law, and a person desiring a patent in a particular country must make an application for patent in that country in accordance with its particular laws. Since the laws of many countries differ in various respects from the patent law of the United States, applicants are advised to seek guidance from specific foreign countries to ensure that patent rights are not lost prematurely. Applicants also are advised that in the case of inventions made in the United States, the Director of the USPTO must issue a license before applicants can apply for a patent in a foreign country. The filing of a U.S. patent application serves as a request for a foreign filing license. The application's filing receipt contains further information and guidance as to the status of applicant's license for foreign fling. Applicants may wish to consult the USPTO booklet, “General Information Concerning Patents” (specifically, the section entitled "Treaties and Foreign Patents”) for more information on timeframes and deadlines for filing foreign patent applications. The guide is available either by contacting the USPTO Contact Center at ‘800-786-9199, or it can be viewed on the USPTO website at http:/iwnw.uspto. gov'web/ottices/pacidocigeneralindex. html For information on preventing theft of your intellectual property (patents, trademarks and copyrights), you may wish to consult the U.S. Government website, hitp:/www.stopfakes.gov. Part of a Department of Commerce initiative, this website includes self-help "Yookits’ giving innovators quidance on how to protect intellectual property in specific countries such as China, Korea and Mexico. ABSTRACT The present invention is an easily used folding hanger for drying and storing wetsuits, waders, dry-suits, or similar water sport garments; and a pair of accessories (either boots, booties, water shoes, or gloves). Some existing hangers accommodate accessories. Current hangers support all the weight of the garments on the shoulders or shoulder straps causing damage to the garment. This hanger minimizes the stress on the garment by supporting it’s mid-section from an open "horizontal arm", while providing two steeply angled arms, “booty wings", to hold accessories. When not in use, existing non-folding hangers are either bulky or (with the exposed hook) potentially damaging to the garment. Some are both. In the open position, the V shape provides more vertical reach than other designs; increasing the hanger’s versatility in use. Storing the garment and accessories together increases efficient expenditure of the user’s time, both before and after use. Page 6 of 9 What is claimed is: [Claim 1] A folding water sport garment and accessories hanger comprised of two independent assemblies, a broad “horizontal arm assembly” and a raking “hook arm assembly”, connected together by a “hinge pin”, a dowel serving as the pivot point of rotation. When not in use the "hook arm assembly" folds down parallel to “horizontal arm assembly” and the two assemblies nest together for compact storage. In the open position, the “horizontal arm assembly" and the "hook arm assembly" form a V shape. The broad “horizontal arm” gently supports the garment by the comparatively larger and stronger area of the garments mid-section. The two "booty wings", which are part of the “hook arm assembly”; provide an upward angled support for paired accessories. The "hook arm" of the "hook arm assembly" provides vertical reach that allows the “hook”, at its upper end, access to a multitude of hanging possibilities. The hanger without the “booty wings" is a simpler embodiment of the invention. Page 5 of 9 Folding Water Sport Garment and Accessories Hanger DESCRIPTION (Para 1] BACKGROUND [Para 2] My invention relates to the drying and storage of water sport garments and accessories, most specifically (though not exclusively) wetsuits and booties. Wetsuit manufacturers advise buyers not to hang their suits by the shoulders because the wait of the suit can permanently damage the often thinner neoprene in the neck and shoulder areas. This problem is exacerbated by the extra weight of the water in a wet wetsuit. Prior art has addressed this problem by padding or broadening the shoulder support area of the hanger. My invention is the first offer an open armed hanger that allows stress of the suit’s weight to be born by the comparatively thicker larger waist of the suit. Additionally, prior art has been bulky when not in use and has not provided provisions to dry and store accessories, my invention addresses both these needs. Traveling with a non folding conventional type hanger, with the hook always exposed, is potentially damaging to the garments should the hook snag the garment. [Para 3] Even without the accessory holding arms my invention is a unique solution. The addition of accessory storage increases the hangers’ utility dramatically, by keeping the gear conveniently together. Additional gear can be hung from the hanger by attaching lanyards to the hanger and providing a means of attachment (i.e. clips or a slipknot) at the other end of the lanyard. In this way, for example, a surfer’s wetsuit, booties, and gloves would all be dried and stored in one place on one location. (Para 4] U.S. Pat. No. 2,686,620 to Rose Waldman shows a suit coat and trouser that has a folding open arm to hang the trousers from. That feature is attached to the lower part of a conventional looking coat hanger and can not be used separately. [Para 5] U.S. Pat. No. D171872 to C.F. Waldron et al and U.S. Pat. No.D183640 to Laurence W. Van Dusen both none folding open arm clothing hangers. [Para 6] DESCRIPTION [Para 7] The present invention relates to a folding water sport garment and accessories hanger. The hanger is comprised of two independent assemblies, a broad “horizontal arm assembly” and a raking “hook arm assembly”, connected together by a “hinge pin”, a dowel serving as the pivot point of rotation. All the components of the hanger could be Page 1 of 9 made from wood, metal, plastic, or any combination thereof. They could be fabricated, machined, molded, or any combination thereof, The components could be glued or mechanically fastened as need dictates. [Para 8] In the following description of the hanger and its components, they are described as if they were fabricated from more components then would be required to machine or mold them. If the later two construction techniques are used then some of the components named below would become integrated features of other components. [Para 9] The hanger is comprised of two independent assemblies, a broad “horizontal arm assembly” and a raking “hook arm assembly”, connected together by a “pivot dowel”, at the fulcrum or pivot point. As such, the “pivot dowel” could be considered to be in both or neither assembly. [Para 10] The “horizontal arm assembly” is made up of the following components: © The "horizontal arm" has fully rounded chamfers on all edges that could contact the garment and functions as a cantilevered beam supported by the “hook arm" from the “pivot dowel” to where the "hook arm” contacts the “bottom plate” © The “bottom plate” closes off the “pivot dowel” end of the "horizontal arm" and bears the torque of the cantilever. © To each side of the "horizontal arm’ “fillets” are added to increase the surface area for gentler support of the garment. © A “stop” is placed in the "horizontal arm” to limit the rotation of the "hook arm assembly” in the closed position. [Para 11] The "hook arm assembly" is made up of the following components: © The "hook arm" has minimally rounded chamfers on all edges that could contact the garment, except the taper terminus of the hook end. The "hook arm” functions as a cantilevered beam supported by the "horizontal arm” from the “pivot dowel” to where it makes contact with the heel (end opposite the “hook”) of the “hook arm". The end referred to as the “hook” serves as Page 2 of 9 the contact or attachment point when hanging or docking the hanger in service. © The "booty wings" have rounded chamfers on all edges that could contact the garment. The "booty wings” attach to each side of the "hook arm’ at the “pivot dowel” and at the "booty wing attachment dowel”. The "booty wings" parallel the "hook arm" so in the open position they angle upward to support accessories in a position that provides for drainage and air circulation. © The "booty wing attachment dowel” serves to attach the "booty wings" rigidly to the "hook arm". (This attachment could obviously be made a number of ways). [Para 12] When not in use the "hook arm assembly" folds down parallel to the “horizontal arm assembly” nesting into each other to achieve a compact form. When folded, the “hook” end of the “hook arm” is housed in a slot in the “horizontal arm assembly” and not prone to unintentionally hook or snag things. [Para 13] The “hook arm assembly” pivots relative to the “horizontal arm assembly” between approximately 45° and 65° to the open position with the “horizontal arm assembly” remaining in a horizontal attitude, forming a V shape. The rotation is limited when the heel of the "hook arm" (the end opposite the hook) comes in contact with the “bottom plate” at the pivot end of the "horizontal leg". All the torque of the load placed on the "horizontal leg" comes to bear on the “pivot dowel” and the “bottom plate”, consequently this area needs to be built to withstand the forces exerted during service. [Para 14] In the open position, the garment is easily slipped into position over the broad “horizontal arm’” to gently support the garment by the comparatively larger and stronger area of the garments mid-section. In the open position, the V shape provides a vertical reach of 50 to 70% the length of the “horizontal arm” that allowing the “hook arm” access to a multitude of hanging possibilities [Para 15] The hanger could be made with an off-center “hook arm”. It could also have a doubled up “hook arm” and fold outside the “horizontal arm” instead of into a slot. The “booty wings" could be eliminated resulting in a simpler more functionally limited hanger. Page 3 of 9 [Para 16] Additional gear can be hung from the hanger by attaching lanyards to the hanger and providing a means of attachment (i.e. clips or a slipknot) at the other end of the lanyard. Still more gear can be hung off either the “horizontal arm” or the “booty wings”. The hanger could be used to dry and store other items not related to water sports including but not limited to the following: rugs, rubber floor mats, coils of rope, and garments of all types. If hangers were used in series long items could be supported and hung. These items might include but not be limited to the following: surfboards, kayaks, shelving, lengths of hose, pipe, fishing rods, booms, masts, skis, poles, ete. [Para 17] While the present invention has been described in terms of a specific embodiment, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to these disclosed embodiments. This invention may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein; rather, these embodiments are provided by way of illustration only and so that this disclosure will be thorough, complete and will fully convey the full scope of the invention to those skilled in the art. Indeed, many modifications and other embodiments of the invention will come to mind of those skilled in the art to which this invention pertains, and which are intended to be and are covered by both this disclosure, the drawings and the claims.
