To those it may concern: May 11, 2015 This letter is in support of allowing 1920c to remain in its current location in San Francisco's Chinatown at 950 Grant Ave My name is Andrew Young. | am the grandson of the original owner of the Kuo Wah Restaurant formally housed at 950 Grant Ave. Kuo Wah Restaurant started in the 1940's and was sold by my family in 1975. My family has owned the building since the early 1940's until it was sold in 2012. The 10,000 square foot space was renamed the Grand Palace Restaurant and it operated in this space closing in 2005. The building was then earthquake retrofitted. Throughout the retrofit and subsequent completion the space was marketed for lease by professional real estate brokers and contacts at the San Francisco Office of Workforce Development. Marketing was geared towards restaurants and restaurant/nightclubs in order to generate more nightlife for Chinatown. Several high profile Asian restaurateurs were contacted. Nothing ever materialized. The building had been vacant since 2005. A period of over eight years. Chinatown’s business has been in a steady decline for many years. There are many reasons. With the demise of the three martini business lunch financial types found it difficult to have lunch in Chinatown and then get back to work. Many entrepreneurial restaurateurs took the food to them and opened operations in the financial district. ‘The demographics changed when the old time doctors, attorneys, accounts and manufacturing type services and business disappeared. Many categories of businesses, ex. electronics, building supply and hardware stores were replaced by online and Super stores. Travel agencies replaced by online websites. ‘These people would work, dine, and play in Chinatown and were not replaced by younger generations, San Francisco Chinatown is still the heart of the Chinese community but the general expansion of Chinese to the outer reaches of San Francisco and the Bay Area has also led to the decline. It's is no longer necessary to shop or dine in Chinatown. All that has come to the suburbs. 99 Ranch and Lyon foods for groceries and the multitude of good and great Chinese restaurants The community needs to fill vacant space with operations that bring back individuals that are able and willing to spend their money here in Chinatown. 1920c does. | and my family support 1920c rem: its current location at 950 Grant Ave. f “Andrew Young—
