Publisher’s Note
The Tamil translation of
 Arunachala Mahatmyam
(Sanskrit) done by Sri Munagala S. Venkataramiah (laterSri Ramanananda Saraswati, compiler of
Talks withSri Ramana Maharshi
) is already published by Sri Ramanasramam. The English translation of this by Sri M. C. Subramanian was serialised in
The Mountain Path
.This has been reissued now and includes a few alterationsand additions. A long-felt need of devotees has at last beenrealised with the publication of this in book form. An unavoidable feature of the original is the repetitionof stories as compiled from various Sanskrit sources. Thishas been retained in translation in order to emphasise theglory of Arunachala as the main theme. Appended to the
 Arunachala Mahatmyam
(English), which forms the main body of the text, is the
 ArunachalaPuranam
as vignettes, translated by Sri J. Jayaraman fromthe Tamil poetic work of Saiva Ellappa Navalar, oftenreferred to by Sri Bhagavan. This too originally appearedas a serial in
The Mountain Path
