BUSINESS
Meeting of the Board of Education of the City of Plainfield was held this day in the Plainfield Board ofEducation Administration Building, auditorium. Notice had been provided to Board members and to the Courier-News, Star Ledger, Public Library, City Clerk, Plainfield Police Department, and posted in all Plainfield PublicSchools and the District’s website. The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Mr. Gary L. Ottmann, BoardSecretary, and the following action took place:
I. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCEII. WELCOME
WELCOME to a Business Meeting of the Board of Education of the City of Plainfield. Members hope you will findthe meeting interesting and informative. We thank you for taking the time to attend. Please be advised that thisand all meetings of the Board are open to the media and public, consistent with the OPEN PUBLIC MEETINGSACT (Ch. 231 Laws of 1975), and that advance notice required therein has been provided to the Courier News andthe Star Ledger on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 for advertisement on Friday, May 29, 2009.

WHEREAS, the Open Public Meetings Act, N.J.S.A.10:4-11, permits the Board of Education to meet inclosed session to discuss certain matters, now therefore be itRESOLVED, the Board of Education adjourns to closed session to discuss:

The Board of Education adjourned into its Executive Session at 6:41 p.m.

The Plainfield Board of Education resumed the public session of its Business Meeting at 6:50p.m.IV. REMARKS FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENTMr. Cathcart indicated that Ms. Rivers would arrive momentarily.V. REMARKS FROM THE SUPERINTENDENTDr. Gallon welcomed each and everyone to tonight’s meeting. He introduced Caryn Cooper, Principal ofBarlow School, whose students gave a drum and vocal performance.VI. STUDENT PERFORMANCESStudents from Barlow School performed.VII. PRESENTATIONSThere was a presentation on the district’s strategic plan progress. The Board members expressedexcitement about the state of the district.Recognitions were awarded to students for their role in “character education.”Dr. Gallon introduced participants in the newly formed Plainfield Leadership Program.There was a presentation and update on the master schedule by Angela Kemp.VIII. PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOORMike Washington addressed the board concerning his transfer.Katherine Cardona requested the board to reconsider the transfers of staff members and to always asquestions of the administration.Alise Scott Leach is having trouble with the education of her son.IX. REMARKS FROM COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONSThe Human Resources agenda on page 18, reflects Chris Lommerin as an appointment for the 2009-2010 school year. He has resigned.The Finance agenda pages, 104 & 105, items 14, 15 & 16 were pulled.Ms. Barksdale reported that a cable committee advisory meeting will be held on June 18, 2009.

is legislative day and provides an opportunity for board members to seelegislation at work.XI. REMARKS FROM THE STUDENT LIAISIONSPlainfield High School students recently celebrated passing the torch from seniors to juniors.This Thursday is the PHS Promenade and the Prom which is being held in West Paterson, NJ.XII. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGSThe Board Secretary presents the following minutes:April 7, 2009 Work & Study MeetingApril 14, 2009 Business MeetingMay 5, 2009 Organization Meeting

May 12, 2009 Work & Study Meetingas printed for Board adoption, moved by Mr. Cox and seconded by Ms. Rivers. The motion carried, on aroll-call vote, with six members in favor of all, Mrs. Campbell in favor of all but abstained on May 12, 2009minutes, Mrs. Logan-Leach abstained on April 14, 2009 and none were opposed.
