More time to think,reflect, compose,edit, support andenrich (eg.references, links,media)
Lack of non-verballanguage(expressions, tone, gestures) – can leadto misinterpretation
Online cliques canbe just as strong asface-to-face
More permanent,recorded
Can get messy if unstructured
Lurking only
Asynchronous, don’thave to be online, same place & timewith others
Potential for spamand flaming (abuse, swearing, hostility)
Early or late postersmay get smallaudience
Learn with and fromothers
If not formulatedcarefully quicklydegenerate
Recording could begood or bad
Great for peopleless confident andshy in person
Not good for thosewho prefer speakingthan writing

demonstrates theinteractivity of Moodle
not everyone likes theinternet/Moodle thing
it is so different totraditional teaching– pros and cons
begins with activeparticipation ratherthan staticdocument uploads
posts can get hostile(flaming) quickly
depends on whatthey have usedbefore
activates & supportsongoing interaction
it looks ‘old’, ‘boring’,‘old fashioned’compared to newermultimedia tools
depends on thecohort and subject
encourages activelearning,engagement,contributions
it is easy to avoid
depends onassignment &teacher
has easy entry level
spam could be an issue
if teacher has initialbad experience theymay not revisitMoodle
participants learnhow to use the mostimportant tool
if blended withother activities &use just forfeedback/interaction
starts to build acommunity straightaway
doesn’t have to beserious – bring inhumour
is great for givingengaging tasks –“find a lie..”,“guess what..”,“which is best..”
