PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION
In the preparation of the third edition of this book con
‘derable number of new problems were added, and answers
fo many ofthe old problems inserted. ‘The book was expanded
by the addition of ero new chapters; namely, Chapter VILL
hich deals with bending of beams in a plane which is not a
plane of symmetry and Chapter XII onthe bending of curved
bars, In Chapter VIII the notion of shear center, whichis of
seat practical importance in the case of thin walled struc-
free, i introduced. In Chapter XII ir presented the mate-
fial on curved bars which previously appeared in che second
volume ofthis book.” That material has been entirely rewet-
ten and new material added. It is hoped with chese major
