About the Authors
Paul MEERTS (The Netherlands) is Visiting Professor at the College of EuropesDepartment of
EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies 
and Advisor to theDirector of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations Clingendael’ at TheHague. As co-founder of the Clingendael Institute he was Director of the Departmentof Training and Education (1983-1989) and Deputy Director (1990-2006). He is agraduate of Leiden University and an experienced trainer, consultant and researcherin diplomatic negotiations as well as a member of the Steering Committee of theProcesses of International Negotiation (PIN) Network.The other contributors were students in the Masters programme
EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies 
at the College of Europe in the academic year2008-2009 (Marcus Aurelius promotion):Adam HARRISON (United Kingdom) holds an MA from the College of Europe andand an MA in Russian and French from Gonville and Caius College, CambridgeUniversity, UK. He is currently Deputy Director of a London-based NGO whichsupports transnational politics and culture in Europe.Elmar HELLENDOORN (The Netherlands) holds an MA from the College of Europe andan MA in International Relations in Historical Perspective from Utrecht University,Netherlands.Chloe MIDDLETON (United Kingdom) holds an MA from the College of Europe and aBA Honours degree in Modern and Medieval Languages, specialising in Germanhistory and politics, from the Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, UK.
