Gertrude

Fingerless mittens from sock yarn. Good for spring


and fall when it is trying to be warm out and failing!

Short rows are used at the top to follow the curve of


your palm with your fingers. The side net to your
pinky is shorter than that next to your index finger.

Materials
* US 1.5 dpns or 40" circular for magic knitting
* Half a skein of Classic Elite Alpaca Sox (225 yds/50g; nylon, alpaca, merino) - any sock yarn of
about this weight will do.

Gauge: 8 st x 11 r = 1"

One size.

Lace rib:

(K2tog, yo, p1) around.

Directions
Wrist
CO 54 st. Join.
Work 4 rounds 2x1 rib
1 rounds lace rib
6 rounds 2x1 rib
1 rounds lace rib
2 rounds 2x1 rib
6 rounds 2x1 rib
1 rounds lace rib
15 rounds 2x1 rib.

Hand
Work 9 rounds Stst.
BO 2 st for the thumb hole at the beginning of the next round (on
a k round).
For now, work flat in Stst and slip the first stitch of every row.
Next row: sl1, p2tog, p to last 3 st, p2tog, p1.
Work 18 rows flat in Stst.
Next k row: sl1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1.
P next row.
CO 2 st onto the new needle and join with the next needle to start working in the round again.
K 5 rounds.
On the last round, pm after 18 st, and again after another 13 st.
Work Short rows shaping
Next Round: k to the first marker.
Next Round: turn, slip next st, k to the next marker.
Next Round: k to 6 st before first marker.
Next Round: turn, slip next st, k to 6 st before the next marker.
Next Round: k to 12 st before the first marker.
Next Round: turn, slip next st, k to 12 st before the next marker.
Next Round: k 1 round, removing the markers.
