The

UnitManagement Committee(UMC)
members
are elected annually
at
the
Annual
GeneralMeeting(AGM).UMCmembers are elected from
the
membership
of
the
SeaCadet Unit
which
is
drawnloosely
as
being
those
with
an
interest
in
the
unit.
In
theevent
of
a
vacancy
arising during
theyear
{knownas
a
casual vacancy),
the
UMChave
the
power
to
appoint
a
newUMCmember.
The
UMCmember appointedwill
serve
until
the
dateof
the
next
AGM, afier
which
the
post
will
be
filled
byelection.
The
Unifs
charitablepurpose(s|
as
set
out
in its
sonstitution:
To
help
young
people
towards
responsible
adulthood
by
encouraging
valuable
personal
attributes
and highstandards of conduct, using
a
nautical
theme
basedon
the
customs
of
the
RoyalNavy.

The
Unifs
main
activities
andachievements for the
financial
year:
In
2008/09,
the
Unit
was
recognisedthrough
the
awardof apennantby Sea CadetHeadquarters.This highlights
the
Unit asoneofthetop
three
in Oxfordshire
and
Buckinghamshireand
takes
accountof all
aspectsof
Unit managementfromtraining
to
healthand safety.
We
alsocontinued
to
build
our
strong relationswith ouraffiliatedship,HMS
ARK
ROYAL,withcadetsfrom
the
Unitsailing
on
boardin February andmembers
of
the
ship's
company
attending
the
St
George's
Night Mess Dinner
in
April.lmprovements
tothe
infrastructure
of
the
Unithavealso continuedwith
work
on the toilets(including
a
disabledtoilet)
finalised
at
the
start of the
financial
year.
We
have alsolined theguttersto
the
building,which
were
leakinginplacesand couldhave otherwise
caused
serious damageto
the
main
deck.
Finally
we
havecontinued workto
fit
outthe
former
garageasa marineworkshop.
It
isour aimthat
this major
project
be
finished
in
the
2009/10financialyear.
Publicbenefit:
The
UMCcontinue
togivedue
regardto
the
publicbenefit
provided
by
the
Unitin relationto
the
charitablepurpose
of
the Sea
Cadetmovementas set out
in
the
activities
and
achievementsasoutlined above.
The
aim
is
to
promote
the
developmentof
young
people
in
achieving
their
physical,
intellectualand
social
potentialas
individuals
and
responsible
citizens
in
a safe
environment.
In
order
to
achieve this,
the
Unit
takesyoung
people
from
allbackgrounds,including
where
possiblethose with disabilitiesand develops
their
skillsand
abilities
by:

Regularandstructured activitieswith
anauticaltheme;
o
Allowing
young
peopleto
take
part
in
activities connectedwith the
wider
Sea
Cadet
movementsuch as seaborneactivities,
events
and competitionsatdistrict, area
and
nationallevels; and
r
Availabilityof
formal
educational achievementswhilst
taking
courses
toearn
badgesandpromotions.Contributions
are
kept low
in
orderto
ensure
allthose
who wishto
take
part
in
the
activities
of
the
Unitmay
do
so.
Reseryes
policy:
The charity
trustees'
policyaims
to
maintain unrestrictedreserves at alevel equating
to
3 months'revenuepayments
in
order
to
safeguard
the
Unit'songoing activities
from
anyunexpected
fluctuations
inincome.Unrestricted
year-end
reserves amounted
to€704.43
equalto
1
month's
on
that
basis.
Thetrustees
aim
to
increase
these
unrestricted
funds to
3
months'
revenuepaymentsthroughincreasedutilisation of
the
hall
in
2009/10.
Designated
funds:
The
Unitholds
[3,500
in
designatedfunds for
future
projects
to
be
carried
out
in
2009/10 ascurrentlyplanned.
