 A Lenten Gift
number of years ago, at another parish Janis, Sarah, Matthew and Iattended, someone conceived a book of Lenten meditations, written by members of the parish. I participated – and found it rewarding. As aresult, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for John 6:25.I’ve long wanted to do a similar project with my friends here at St.Martin’s; this seemed to be the year to make it happen. As I write this, I am the only person who has read all of the meditations. What you are holding is a great gift from members of St. Martin’s to therest of the parish. It is food for thought. It will inspire prayer. It will give you space for quiet contemplation. As I asked for help with this project, I was struck by the confession I heard from so many of you.
This is outsidemy comfort zone
, you said.
I’ve never done anything like this…but I haveto push myself.
I am grateful you did. I’m grateful you found it asrewarding as I did. Many of you thanked me for putting this together, but in truth, all I did was ask. You did the work. Thank you to all of you, and to Janet Theissand Ruby Downs. I hope that for a few minutes, as you reflected on yourreadings and composed these words, you found yourself closer to God –as those of us who read them now will find ourselves over the nextseveral weeks.Thank you.Kurt GreenbaumFeb. 14, 2010
