DO AWAY WITH GREED
What is greed?
Greed also referred to covetousness is an intense desire
to possess something (or someone) that belongs to
another person.
Facts concerning greed:
1. The tenth commandment forbids
covetousness: Thou shalt not covet thy
neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy
neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing
that is thy neighbour's. (Exodus 20:17 King
James Version)
2. Greed springs from a greedy self-
centeredness and an arrogant disregard of
God's law: Example of this is Achan when he
disobeyed GOD’s directive and he took among the
spoils of Jericho. Hear him; “When I saw in the
plunder a beautiful robe from Babylonia, two
hundred shekels of silver and a wedge of gold
weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took
them. They are hidden in the ground inside my
tent, with the silver underneath." (Joshua 7:21
New International Version)
3. The result of greed is always unsatisfaction:
Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied,
so human desire is never satisfied. (Proverbs
27:20 New Living Translation)
people are in such a hurry to get rich that they do
not know when poverty is about to strike.
(Proverbs 28:22 Today’s English Version)
5. Greed is the same as idolatry: Mortify therefore
your members which are upon the earth;
fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is
idolatry: (Colossians 3:5 King James Version)
6. Greed is futile: Don't weary yourself trying to get
rich. Why waste your time? For riches can
disappear as though they had the wings of a bird!

7. A minister of GOD is not to be greedy: For a
bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God,
not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to
wine, not violent, not greedy for money, (Titus
1:7 New King James Version)
8. You are not to associate with a greedy
people: But now I have written unto you not to
keep company, if any man that is called a brother
be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a
railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such
an one no not to eat. (1 Corinthians 5:11 King
James Version)
9. You must trust the Lord and face your
responsibility to do away with greed: And let
us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we
shall reap, if we faint not. (Galatians 6:9 King
James Version)
10. Learn to be contented with what you have:
There is great gain in godliness with contentment;
for we brought nothing into the world, and we
 cannot take anything out of the world; but if we
have food and clothing, with these we shall be
content. (1 Timothy 6:6-8 Revised Standard
Version)
11. Jesus warns you against greed: Beware! Don't
always be wishing for what you don't have. For
real life and real living are not related to how rich
we are." (Luke 12:15 The Living Bible)
Dear brother, you need to do away with greed, be
content with what you have.
