Thanks Maa, a film on abandoned kids, has been
selected for the Best New International Feature Award
at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. It’s the
story about the journey of a 12-year old boy living on
the streets of Mumbai, on a mission to find the mother
of a two-day-old abandoned baby boy. He has four
friends who are either abandoned or runaways and
surviving on the streets of Mumbai who help him. Out
of the five street kids in the film, four are actual street
kids. “The boys were trained by NSD graduate Abhay
Joshi and me,” says Irfan Kamal, the film’s debutant
director, who’s also the son of the late choreographer,
Kamal.
