The Third Annual Duke Ellington Jazz Festival launches September 9-17 in Washington, DC, and as part of the festivities, this event will also celebrate Dizzy Gillespie's 90th birthday. For September 10, and actually every Monday night, the One Mic Nite talent showcase ( http://www.myspace.com/onemicnite ) and industry networking event turns over the microphone to a variety of performinng artists at the Voyage Restaurant/Bar, in the far west quarter of Greenwich Village. BMI is a co-sponsor for the first industry conference focusing primarily on Latin hip-hop, urban, and reggaeton which opens with a party and showcase produced through LA TV September 12 in West Hollywood.
