Finals for the Speech contest in Palm Desert, California - August 11-14, 2010.Contestants need a new speech for this.(2) People required for the contestExternal people required:1)1 mystery speaker from another club2)5 to 8 judges including a Chief Judge - they should not be participating in thecompetitions. They should be external to the club.Internal People required:3) Chair - can pick one Chair for the evening or two Chairs for the different halves of the evening. Can pick people that need it for their CL. This person should go round toa competition to see what he/she has to do.4) 2 Timekeepers5) 2-3 vote-counters6) 1 sergeant-of-arms7) Table Topics Master - to keep audience occupied whilst vote-counting is going on8) 2 people to print documentation - always have a backup9) Speech competitors - aim for 4 to 5 at least for a good competition. Competitorscan probably use this as a manual speech.10) Evaluation competitions - aim for 4 to 5 at least for a good competition.(3) Rules1.People running it should be familiar with the rules with regards to who canenter and who can judge. These include:a.Members must be in good standing, i.e. be paid-up members at allstages of the contests.
b.
For the speech contest, they will have to have completed speech 6 –before the contestc.Anyone can enter the evaluation contest.d.Judges – cannot enter the competitionsPlease read the rulebook.(4) Other Points1.Organisers usually send the contestants details of marking criteria andtimings well before the contest. This information will all be in your competitionpack.2.Quite often contests start at around 7:00pm3.There are marks for appearance at these contests so contestants are advisedto dress smartly.4.Functionaries and contestants should arrive early for briefings.5.The organiser should ensure that a copy of the rulebook is present at thecompetitions so that it can be referred to should any dispute arise.
