Position: Farmers Market ManagerResponsibilities
Planning
Develop the Market business plan as a critical component of the DRI work plan.Explore additional sources of revenue to support and expand the operation and promotion of theMarket.Assist vendors in pricing, merchandising and other business related issues.
Identify additional opportunities Downtown to expand the Market’s mission.
 Assist the President/CEO with preparation of the annual budget for the Market.In cooperation with the Program Manager, develop a marketing plan for the Market.
Organizing
Maintain files on financial records and primary/secondary lease agreements.Maintain records and prepare market/vendor reports monthly and annually.Establish placement of all primary, secondary and daily vendors on the Market.
Executing
 Enforce and update rules and regulations of the Historic Roanoke City Market as defined by theMarket Handbook.Execute contracts for spaces and collection of fees for the same; ensure fees are collected fromvendors on a timely basis.Secure the Market Area and set daily renters as needed (including some weekends); ensure staffdoes the same during absences/vacations.
Initiate a proactive vendor recruitment strategy to ensure the Market’s long
-term health andsuccess.Perform on site visits of vendors as specified by the Market Handbook.In cooperation with the Director of Events, plan and implement marketing promotions andprograms for the Market; including but not limited to: City Market Saturdays, Harvest Festival andGreening of the Market.Assist in the implementation of other special events, specifically those occurring in the MarketArea such as Dickens of a Christmas.Follow up on all work orders for maintenance relative to the physical structure of the Market; notifythe President/CEO of all work orders produced.In cooperation with the Program Manager, maintain the Historic Market Facebook 
“fan page”
 and relevant sections of the DRI website.
 
Evaluation
 Provide consistent and accurate reporting against the Market Business Plan and DRI Work Plan ona monthly and annual basis.Establish a positive dialog with Market Vendors, Cooperative Extension and other strategicpartners.Work cooperatively with DRI staff in order to best achieve the company mission.Complete in a timely and professional manner special projects as assigned by the President/CEO.
Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience
Background in agricultural and/or retail management preferred.Experience in developing and executing business plans and budgets.Experience in working with agricultural institutions, private businesses, public organizations and cityleadership.BA/BS or equivalent preferred.Previous experience managing a Farmers Market is highly preferred.

Work Schedule
 Due to the seasonal nature of the Farmers Market, the work schedule will vary based on the needs ofthe Market. During peak season, weekend work will be required.
Physical Requirements
 Frequent standing and walking for prolonged periods may be required.
 
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors including during inclement weather.
 
Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
