Variables for Exercise # 6

Dependent Variable: RAP “R’s liking music”

Independent Variable: AGECAT “R’s age

Control Variable: RACE “R’s race”

Bivariate Hypothesis:

The age of the respondents has a big affect on their like or dislike of rap music. The

younger respondents will lean towards the liking of rap music; while on the other hand, the older

respondents will refer to disliking rap music. The age category ranging from 30-39 both liking

rap and also disliking rap would have a neutral number. There wouldn’t be a big difference in the

respondents liking rap and also the other respondent that doesn’t like rap.

Multivariate Hypothesis:

Although age plays an important factor in the survey about rap music, race is also an

important factor. The race of the respondents has a big affect on determining who like rap music

and who don’t. The black race percentage of individuals liking rap music is higher than the white

race. Also in the age category; there are more black teens listening to rap music than the white

teenagers. In this survey, the age and race causes changes to the percentage of individuals that

like rap music.

Bivariate and Multivariate 5

Bivariate Discussion:

In the bivariate table the teens ranging from age 18-29 most considered to liking rap

music, leaving a few to disliking rap music. In the other two age category there are more

individuals disliking rap music. I can understand that because the younger generation is the only

one being influenced by the rapping industry. I would at least thought that the age category

ranging from 30-39 would have a big number in the respondents liking rap music, instead of

disliking it. Why I say that is because people around that age tends to try hook themselves to new

school music.

Multivariate Discussion

Like I mentioned early, race has a big affect on the number of individuals liking rap

music. In the white data box, the biggest number of respondents responded to disliking rap music

period. In the younger category also appears to be a larger number in the dislike box. In the age

category ranging from 18-29, 55.3 of the respondents voted to disliking rap music while the like

poll is 44.7. In the black race there are more respondents replied that they like rap music instead

of the age group 40 and over. The black group raise the bar for the liking rap music in the age

group ranging from 18-39.
