The Pivot
Letters from the President
The 2010 board of directors has already been hard at work for the chapter. We have developed the chapter plan, which willbe put before the membership next GMM for approval. Inaddition, we've worked out a great yearly calendar thatincludes tons of fun events as well as some blank spots to befilled as soon as member surveys are returned.I really hope that 2010 can top 2009! Last year we addedTONS of new members, and I challenge this organization tokeep that momentum going. By increasing our membership,we are able to maximize the possible effect we can have onthe community while minimizing the burn-out damage toindividual members. In addition, adding new members bringsfresh breath, fresh perspectives, fresh ideas and fresh jokes--something our organization has always appreciated.Although it seems like being Jaycee President for consecutiveterms would be easy and perhaps even an advantage, it'sreally not. I find that it's hard to see things objectively, with afresh perspective. It's important to me to function as apresident that serves the organization and works to meet theexpectations of the group. Because of this, I'd like to hear fromall of you. Please, email me: ideas for projects, chapter improvements, or fundraisers; complaints about policy, expectations, the weather; thoughts on what the Jayceesshould do the meaning of life, compliments for thingsaccomplished.I hope to see you all at the next GMM. Remember, you mustbe present to win the drawing!

Hi Jaycees,Here is an update on our association with FiveCAP, Inc.,for the 17th Annual Walk for Warmth. Through the MamieFund, we will be awarding the Walk for Warmth $100dollars. Our organizational donation has secured theManistee Jaycees as an official sponsor of the event. Thanks everyone :)The Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction will be held onFriday, February 19th at the Manistee Moose Lodge. Theexact time and entertainment listing will be finalizedshortly. The event is usually starts around 5:00 p.m. andends at 8:00 p.m. Here's the good news, the spaghetti isplentiful and good with meat and marinaraoptions! Please pass the word about the dinner. Thefood is all donated by the Moose Lodge to the Walk for Warmth. With a strong attendance at dinner, this eventhas the potential to become an easy component of our fundraising for heating assistance. The 2 mile walk will be held on Saturday, February20th, at 10 a.m. The walk will start and end at theFiveCAP, Inc. office on 1st Street. All walkers, includingdogs with owners, are encouraged to participate! Thepledge sheet is available as an attachment and I will bringadditional copies to the GMM. If you are unableto participate, please consider sponsoring someone whois walking. After the walk, we serve a light lunch to allparticipants. The last few years it has been chili - alwaysgood after a winter walk!Jaycees, your involvement with the dinner and/or walkwill make a difference to those who slip through thecracks of other heating assistance programs. Thanks, BonnieQuestions, email Bonnie @benziepoam@yahoo.com The Manistee Jaycees pride themselves in being part of the Community. One of the ways we take part in the community is by holding the Annual CommunityDinner. This year, due to budget constraints, we have instead planned aCommunity Awards Reception. At this reception, we will recognize OutstandingYoung members of this community (including one of our own!), and give specialthanks to the people and companies outside the Jaycees membership that makeour projects possible throughout the year.I would highly encourage all Jaycees to attend this Awards Reception, and be par of the recognition process. There will be after dinner delights, music by ShaunAnchak and a cash bar, and many community members to mix and mingle with.
So please consider attending ~ The more the merrier!

The Community Awards Reception will be held Thursday, January 28 at 6:30pm at TJ'sPub. Questions, please emailsarah@mscreativeservices.com
