March, 03, 2010

September one thousand nine hundred

ninety five, outside a small apartment the
sounds could be heard for blocks. The young
boy’s stepfather took him by the arm and
dragged him into a room and slammed the
door shut. He pulled himself upon the edge
of the bed holding his side from the pain that
was going through his body. Tears streamed
down his face while he curled up next to his
pillow. Glancing out the window something

2
caught his eye causing him to get up and
work his way over to it. Just outside the
window seal there was a green praying
mantis. It had caught a meal for itself a
small brown recluse spider. He stared out at
it with amazement as the mantis slowly
devoured it. The sight slowly took his mind
off what just happened to him.
********

November eighth two thousand and

nineteen, walking down the halls of TQR
(Time Quest Research) at a fast pace
arguing with each other. Look at me, he says
while grabbing the man’s shoulder and
turning him around.

3
We have to tell them that we found the cross
link!

Look, keep your voice down we don’t have

to tell them anything right now. I took this
work home with me just so I could keep my
findings a secret. There is a leak in this
company and until I find out whom it is this
is not to be spoken of again.

But Nash

No buts James just do as I say for now if this

technology falls into the wrong hands it
would be catastrophic. We have to keep it to
ourselves until we know who we can trust.”

4
The two men continue their way down the
hall a short space and a man walked out
from a door on the right side.

How are you gentlemen today?

Just fine, how are things going with you?

Very good, but the bug killing is about to

kick my butt.
Well, we won’t keep you from your work
any longer.

Oh, I’m Just about done here. I’ve got one

more room to do. They said that it was full
of brown recluse spiders. See you gentlemen
later.

See yeah, Joe.

5
They continued up the hall to the door. Nash
took off his nametag and ran it through a
slot on the right side of the door. A panel
slides back and a computer comes out of the
wall with an eye scan test. Please lean
forward into the scanner. Nash does as the
machine asks and likewise James does the
same. The door opens and they enter the
room. The door closes behind them and
locks.
The lights went out in the room and it was
filled with darkness. A blinding light forced
them to cover their eyes. They felt their way
over to the door and tried to get out, but it
didn’t open. Wind was blowing everything
around the room. All at once, the wind
stopped blowing and the lights flickered
back on.

6
What in the blue blazes is going? Nash
cried out.

“We’ve got to stop it!”

James ran over to the control panel to shut it

down.
Someone has locked it down! There’s no
way to stop it!
He looked over to the right side of it and
saw a small box. There were numbers on it
counting down.

Nash, we’ve got to get out of here, now!

What James?

There’s a bomb!

7
James run back to the door and tried to open
it.

The door is jammed, it’s locked.

Before Nash said a word the bomb

exploded.

March fifteenth two thousand fifty six it was

four o’clock in the morning. Ethan sat upon
the edge of the bed and began to stretch. He
got up, and walked down the hall to the
kitchen.

I can smell the coffee brewing He thought

as he took in a deep breath. He staggered

8
over to the cabinet, and opened it up. While,
he reached in and pulled out his favorite
green coffee cup, he looked over at the
coffee pot, and yawned. He closed the
cabinet door and walked over to the coffee
maker. He picked up the coffee pot by the
handle than tipped it over and poured
himself a cup. He placed the pot back in the
coffee maker, and took a sip of it.

Hah, man that first cup of coffee in the

morning is the best he thought.
He exhaled and woke up from the caffeine
rushing to his brain.

Andrea, lights on!

Lights on Dr. Quest, the computer

responded.

9
He sat the cup of coffee on the kitchen table,
and walked over to the back door and
opened it.
He reached into the box that was just outside
the door and took out the morning paper.
Then walked back over to the kitchen table,
and sat down to read it.
He began to read, man found dead in city
suburbs. Autopsy found high quantities of
recluse venom in his system.
Man that would have to be pretty good size
spider.
He sat the newspaper on the table and went
to check on Lainey to see if she was still a
sleep. Man, she is a hard sleeper he thought,
while he took another sip. He walked down
to his office. He entered the room and sat in
his chair behind the desk.

10
Andrea, lights on!

The lights are now on said the computerized

voice.

Andrea, start the computer!

The computer is now running she said.

Okay let's see here he said while locking his

fingers together, flipping over his hands and
cracking is knuckles.

He touched the icon marked T.Q. (Time

Quest) on his screen.

Man! I can't ever remember that stinking

password. Now what was that code?

11
He leaned over and he extended his hand out
to the safe that was sitting on the floor next
the desk.
Let’s see he mumbled under his breath. Six
to the right, four to the left, seventy eight,
and he turned the handle then a quick pull
the safe opened.

All of his vital papers fell out onto the carpet

at his feet while he reached out to grab them
to keep them from falling, his eyes fixed on
a yellow envelope that was sitting on top.
He picked it up, and held it up to the light.

The deed to Drake Manor, he mumbled

under his breath while a lump formed in his
through. He broke the seal, opened the
envelope, and pulled out the deed. He began

12
to look at it, while; thoughts began to fill his
mind about his mother.

He thought, man it has been two years, since

you have past away".

He felt that he should have been there for

her, but there was nothing that he could do
about it now. He grabbed the desk, pulled
his chair closer to it. Suddenly he thought if
we went to Drake Manor, it would help me
to get over this.

If only Grandpa Nash’s files had not been

destroyed in the explosion.

Andrea, pull up my personal journal.

Journal is open.

13
He began to write I felt so bad for my mom.
When she told me what happened to my dad
and grandpa. That she lost her husband and
father. All in the same day she found out
that she was pregnant with me.
They were on the verge of an extraordinary
brake through. The project that they were
working on would have changed the world
forever.

As, for me, I went into the same field of

study.

Suddenly, he heard, Lainey creeping up the

hall to his office. She peeped around the
corner. They made eye contact.

14
Ethan, I wanted to surprise you she said, as
she entered the room. She was wearing her
pink night gown with her hands on her hips.

Ethan’s eyes bugged out of his head from

the caffeine that he drank.

Good morning babe! He said, with a grin on

his face.
He stood up, walked over to her, and placed
his hand on her shoulder.
Good morning love. What’s that in your
hand? She asked. He looked at the paper in
his hand. Oh, This, It’s the deed that my
mom left to us. Do you remember when I
put it in the safe?
That was over two years ago, Ethan. Lainey
said to him.
I know. I forgot about it.

15
I can see how. We have had our minds on
this project for awhile now.

Yeah, I have been thinking about that.

Thinking about what?

My mind as been so cluttered with the

project I’m about to go crazy!

Yeah, you are not the only one.

I know we've been flustered with this project

Lainey. That is why I have been thinking
about going to Drake Manor.

She placed her hands on his face, pinched up

his cheeks, and moved them back and forth.

16
Is this Ethan Quest talking to me? Who are
you? What have you done with my
husband?

Cut it out I’m serious Lainey! He gently

took hold of her hands and pulled them
down from his face.

I was just playing with you Ethan. Besides,

I’ve wanted to get away from here, for
awhile now.

So it’s settled we are going he said with his

head tilted to the left and his eyes cocked to
the side.

Okay let’s go she said.

17
They packed their clothes and some food in
the hover trail and both got into the hover
cruiser.
He placed his thumb on the identification
scanner. The computer scanned for his
thumb print.

Identification is complete, the computer

said.

The hover cruiser started. He placed the

gearshift into lift. The hovercraft began to
arise off the pavement and the wheels folded
up under it. It lifted up into the skyway and
they were on their way to Drake Manor.
Ethan, could you hand me the cell phone?
Please. What do you need it for?”

18
I think that we should call the electric
company before we get there so the lights
will be on.

That would be a good idea, but everything at

Drake Manor is solar powered.

I didn’t know that.

***

They arrive at Drake Manor about four

hours later. Ethan placed his right hand on
Lainey’s leg.

I can’t believe the size of that house. She

said, while, she leaned forward with her

19
eyes looking up at the top of Drake Manor
through the windshield of the cruiser.
Are you sure this is the right place?

“Yeah he said while he powered down the

hovercraft. It gradually came closer to the
ground and the wheels began to unfold out
from underneath it. The hatch popped open
and slid back.

Lainey took the yellow envelope out of her

bag and opened it up. She turned it upside
down and the key slid out into her hand.
They got out of the hovercraft and walked
up to the front of the house. They saw on the
left side of the door a big golden seal (there
was a name engraved on it) DRAKE
MANOR.

20
She turned around and looked at him. He
reached out and grabbed her by the waist.
I can’t believe this! The reality of ownership
began to reveal it’s self to her.

Here, she said with a smile on her face.

He took the key from her, placed it in the
keyhole, and turned the knob.

He pushed the door open slowly and it

began to creak. They walked across the
thresh hold and a cool breeze rushed past
them.

Wow, Man that was kind of creepy Lainey

said to Ethan.

Don’t worry I won’t let anything happen to

you.

21
That makes me feel a lot better she thought.
Lights on, Ethan said out lowed. The words
echoed throughout the house to no avail.

What? It was worth a try.

Good thing I called the electric company
Lainey said sarcastically look at him funny.

Then, she reached into her bag, pulled out a

flashlight, and tapped him on the shoulder
with it.

He turned his head to see what she wanted?

What?

I thought you might need this.

22
Thanks, you just read my mind.

“Click”

He extended the flashlight out in front of

them, and shined the light on the right wall.
There was a light switch on the wall. He
tried to turn it on, but that did not work. He
shined the light over to the left and the light
revealed a small table stands with an oil
lamp placed on it. There was a small drawer
in the side of the table which was slightly
cracked open. He opened the drawer and
there inside he found a box of matches.

Look what we have here he said.

Ethan handed the flashlight back to Lainey.

23
He took the box of matches out of the
drawer and removed the glass chimney off
the oil lamp. He struck a match on the side
of the box. It began to flare up and there was
a slight smell of sulfur in the air that passed.
He reached over to the oil lamp while he
cupped the match to keep it from going out.
He touched the match to the wick and the
flame burned high. Black soot was
flickering of the end of the flame. He turned
the lamp down to stop the heavy burn.

There we go he whispered under his breath.

Lainey shock her head, rolled her eyes, and

thought man he's so silly.

24
They began to walk down the hall Lainey
picked up the box of matches and put them
in her bag.

Look at this!

Ethan shined the light out in front of them,

they could see that the floor and the walls
were made of coble stone. There were
paintings on both sides of the walls. Lainey
reach down to her side with her left hand,
took hold of Ethan’s hand, and gave it a
slight squeeze as she looked over at him.

He looked back at her with his eyes full of

love. Her heart melted inside before he
could say a word.

I love you, Ethan.

25
She grabbed hold of his waist, pulled him
closer to her, and gave him a soft kiss on his
lips.

I love you too.

They turned from each other and continued

down the hall for short distance. They
entered a huge room that appeared to be the
den. Across from them was a huge fireplace
and on either side of the room there was a
set of stairs.

Lainey clinched his hand hard to get his

attention and leaned over to his ear. She
whispered, isn’t this place amazing?

26
Amazing, is the right word for it! I can
hardly believe that this place is ours he said
as he looked at her with a smile on his face.

Let's build a fire. There's some wood over

there. She said while she pointed over at the
left side of the fireplace.

She reached into her bag and pulled out the

box of matches.

Here, she said reaching out to give them to

him.

He walked over to the fireplace and picked

up a splintered piece of wood.

What kind of wood is that?

27
It's pine he said.

He kneeled on the hearth in front of the

fireplace and stacked some wood inside.

The wood began to slowly catch fire so he

added more to the flame. The room became
brightly lit from the fire and they could see
around the room more clearly. He looked
around the room and saw paintings on every
wall in the den.

I’m cold Ethan.

He took off his jacket and wrapped it around

her shoulders.

I’m going look around and see if I can find

some way to turn these lights on.

28
Okay, I’ll sit here and stay worm by the fire.
Here take this. She reached in her bag, took
out the flashlight and handed it to him.

Thanks.

“Click,”
//a1b2c3d4e5//
He turned around, and shined the light
toward the staircase on the right side. Then,
over a little more to the left, he could see
anther hall that is between the fireplace, and
the staircase on the right. He walked over
toward the hall, and shined the light down it.
He could see a door on the left side, and two
entryways at the end of the hall. He walked
over to the door on the left, turned the knob,

29
and opened it up. Utility supplies, fell out on
him. He jumped back.
“Man that scared the crap out of me!” He
kicked all the junk back in the closet, and
closed the door.
“Ethan did the closet scare you,” Lainey said
as she leaned back with the palms of her
hands on the floor.
“No it did not.”
He turned back to the right, and continued
down the hall. He shined the flashlight from
side to side, and at the ceiling to see what
was there.

Slowly, he crept down the hall until he got

to the two doorways. He turned to the left,
while; he shined the light into the room. He
could see a long dining table, and chairs. He
shined the light to the right into what

30
appeared to be a kitchen. It was a huge
room.

He could see a big electric stove,

refrigerator, and a door that said on it, Wine
cellar. He walked over to it, turned the knob
and it opened up. A cool draft whisked past
him.

“Woo, man that was cold.”

He placed his lift hand on the rail to guide

himself down the staircase, while, he shined
the light downward in front to see the stairs.
Step by step, he came closer to the end of
the stairs.

April eighteenth nineteen ninety five.

31
"Get over here! I told you that you are going
to listen to me."
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry!"
"I’m Sorry, not goanna cut it this time!"
About that time, wind began to blow on the
back of the man that stood in his abusive
stands. A huge vortex of light appeared out
of nowhere, and began to swirl into a funnel.
He turned his head, and arched his eyes to
the left over his shoulder. His eyes couldn't
believe what they were seeing.
A telepathic wave entered the mind of the
young boy's stepfather, “you will keep your
hands off the young boy do you understand
me?"
"Yes, I understand."
The young boy stood there in a state of
shock, as his eyes beheld the green mantis,
but not hearing a word that was spoken.

32
The mantis picked up the man over his head,
and through him a cross the room. The
man's body hit the wall, and slid down onto
the floor. He walked over to the young boy,
as he linked up to his mind.
"Remember this moment in your life, and
pursue your destiny with caution."
As he turned around walked off, his
mandible extended out as if it were a sword.
Atomic energy shot out from the abdomen
of the mantis. The boy covered his eyes
from the bright light, and the mantis was
gone.
September fifth two thousand twenty two
back at Drake Manor. His light began to
reflect off wine bottles.

“Man, it’s like a library of wine down here.”

33
Wine racks lined the walls on both sides of
him, and there were wine racks in rows,
about twenty of them. He walked over to the
first rack, picked up a bottle, blew the dust
off it, while, wiping the access dust off with
the palm of his right hand and shined the
light on it.

Nine-teen-thirty-five, he thought as he read

the side of the bottle
He put the bottle back in the rack, and
shined the light all the way down to the
other side. He began to walk a little farther
down, as, he moved the light back and
fourth from rack to rack, until, it shined on a
rack that had only two bottles on it.

34
“That’s kind of strange.” He whispered,
under his breath.
He reached for one of, the bottles and took it
by the end of it and went to take it out of the
rack. It wouldn’t move. “It’s a prop.” He
thought to him self. He reached over,
grabbed the other one, and lifted it up. He
stepped back with a startled look on his face.
The wine rack opened as if it were a door.

He shined the light into the dark passage

way. It was a small room with another wine
rack in it. He walked in and over to the wine
rack. He shined the light on the bottles,
reached out, picked one of them up, put it up
to his face, as, he tilted his head downward,
and blew the dust off of it, as, he wiped the
access off with the front of his shirt, like you

35
would an apple right before, you eat it. He
shined the light on the label.

“Nine-teen-seventy-eight,” he said in a
whisper.

“These, bottles, must have had some kind of

meaning to grandpa drake. Why else would
he have put them in here?” He put the bottle
back on the rack, and picked up another one.
He wiped it of and looked at the label.
“What was in Two thousand one? Oh, man
wait a minute, my mom’s birthday, this wine
must before special auctions.
He put the bottle back on the rack, turned
around and walked out of the hidden room.

36
On his way back to the stair case he picked
up a bottle of wine, tucked it under his arm,
and headed back to the kitchen.

“Okay, where are the wine glasses?”

He shined the light over at the counter.

There were two glass setting there as if, they
were there for a reason.

“Oh, yes. Here we go.” He picked up the

wine glass and headed back to Lainey. As he
got closer to the den, he began to creep to
the edge. He peeped around the corner.

“There she is.” he began to look at her with

admiration. He could see her setting on the
floor with her head solemnly tucked in his
jacket in front of the fireplace, trying to stay

37
worm from the fire. He crammed the
flashlight into his back pocket, and walked
around the corner.

“Clink”

“Oh, Ethan, You scared me, she said with a

jolted jump, coming of the floor about an
inch.

“I have wine, babe.” He said with a grin on

his face.

“Were did you find that.”

“You won’t believe the size of the wine

cellar that is in this place.”

38
He walked over to her and handed her a
wineglass. He popped the cork from the
bottle, and kneeled down on one knee in
front of her.

“Here we go, babe.” He said as, he poured,

the wine in to her glass.

They could smell the aroma of the wine in

the air around them. He put the bottle on the
floor. Before, she handed him his wineglass.
He propped his elbow on his knee, and
slightly pointed the glass toward hers. She
leaned toward him, and they wrapped
around each other’s arm in the shape of a
pretzel. They took a sip of the wine, while,
looking into each other’s eyes.

39
Suddenly, the lights came on. They sat their
glasses on the floor. She sat hers half
cocked, and it fell over. The wine spilt on
the floor, and poured into a crack at the base
of the hearth. The sound of the wine could
be heard trickling down into a hollow place.

“Lainey, while, I was in the cellar, I found a

secret passage way.”

“I wonder if there are more then?”

“Let’s look around and see if we can find a

trigger or something.”

“Okay.”
They began to feel around on the walls. He
came to the edge of the hearth and could see
a stone that looked a little off. He kicked it

40
with the front of his boot. The fireplace
began to move clockwise. It moved half way
open revealing a long dark hall to the left.

He took the flashlight out of his back

pocket, and extended it out in front of them.
“Click,”

“Come on. Let’s go.”

“Okay.” She said as she took hold of his

hand. Both of them stepped in to the
passageway, and began to walk down the
hall.

“What is that? Ethan.”

“It looks like a door. But there’s no knob on

it.”

41
He turned his head and looked at her. The
flashlight shined right in her face.

“Will you get that out of my face? Please.”

“Oh, I’m sorry babe.”

“Look on the wall. What is that?”

They walked over to the wall. There was a

button with an arrow pointing down on it.
He pushed the button, and the door
swooshed up. It was an elevator. They
walked in, and a light came on. The door
swooshed down. The elevator began to
move down at a high rate of speed.

“Hang on to the rails, Lainey!”

42
“This is starting to scare me.”

“Yeah, me too,”

“It seem like it’s never going to stop!”

About that time, as she spoke those words,

the elevator began to slow down. It came to
a dead stop, and the door swooshed up. The
sound of the computers running in the
background filled the room.

“Welcome to project TIME-WAVE, Ethan

& Lainey Quest, I have been expecting
you,” Said the computer to them.

“Lainey, Do you see what I see?”

43
“Yeah, I do. It’s the equipment from G.S.L.”

They stepped out of the elevator to get a

closer look at the room and walked over to a
huge round platform. He was standing right
in front of it, with a puzzled look on his
face.

“What is this doing here?”

“They must have been working on T. W.

here.”

“It must be a back up project.”

“Yeah, I don’t think that G.S.L. knows

about it ether.”

44
"You mean your Grandpa kept it a secret
from them."
"Yeah, it looks that way"
He stepped upon the platform, and put his
arms in the armrest. Then restrains came out
from the sides, and locked him tightly in
place; with a rush of wind the cylinder come
out of the floor, and arose above his head.
Then, the top sealed shut. He was in
amazement and had waited for this moment
all of his life. Suddenly, he heard a sound
like a jet, and then a blue beam of light
shined right on his forehead.
He heard a computerized voice say;
"Commence body scan.”
The blue beam of light began to move down
toward his feet. He heard the computerized
voice once again.

45
“Scan is complete. Commence Indo-skeletal
production.”
He knew what was about to happen next.
“Indo-skeletal production complete,
commence Indo-cyber muscle placement”.
He thought; "This is unreal; my grandpa
Drake completed the experiment in his own
lab. Wait! This doesn't make since to me. I
was told that it exploded, because, of a
malfunction in the system."
" Indo-cyber muscle placement complete.
Commence Exoskeletal production."
"Oh man, here we go the last step is almost
complete."
Mean while, standing out side of the lavanta
silla; Lainey is waiting to see Ethan.
"I can't believe this. We've been working on
the restoration of this very same project, and

46
all a long his grandpa Drake had a personal
Lab."
Suddenly, she heard the sound of steam, as
if it were being pushed through a crack in a
pipe. Mean while, on the inside of the
cylinder.
"What was that?"
"I am project TIME-WAVE. I am the
computer mainframe; and the armor that you
are wearing. Relax, Ethan."
The top opened up, and the cylinder began
to slowly move back into the floor. As it
moved downward, he could see Lainey
standing there in front of him with a shocked
look on her face.
Time-blade stepped out of the machine, and
looked over at Lainey. The sound of a
computerized voice interred her mind.
"Lainey, I'll be back."

47
"Wait! Were you going?"
"To see for myself, what happened to
them?"
Time-blade extended his hand out toward a
sword on the wall across from him.
"La Onda!"
The sword came off the wall and flew across
the room into his hand. A beam of Atomic
energy shot out of the abdomen of the
armor. A sphere formed in front of him.
Bolts of electricity came out at all points on
the armor, and it formed an electric sphere
around the Atomic sphere.

48
Time-blade took the sword and pierced the
Atomic sphere. It created an implosion.
Everything began to swirl around into a
funnel. Time-blade leaped forward. The
funnel pulled him in, and he vanished out of
Lainey's sight.

49
"I don't know why he couldn't wait for me!
That’s all right. Everything good, I'll just
have to go get him!"
Lainey got in to the machine and put on her
armor.
November eighth two thousand nineteen
Dr. Quest runs over to the control panel to
shut it down. “Someone has locked it down!
There’s no way to stop it! Then, about that
time, he looked over to the right side of it,
and saw a small box. There was numbers
counting down on it.

There was lighting swirling around in the

shape of a funnel.
"What is that? James."
"I don't know!"
Time-blade comes flying out of the white
hole. The electric sphere dissipated, and he

50
snatched them up under his arms. The
sphere went back into full force. They went
through the wall as if it wasn't even there.
He sat them out side on the green grass.
They looked at each other, and at Time-
blade.
"James, it can't be."
"It is Nash."
Time-blade turned from them, and pasted
back through the wall.
"Wait! Wait! There is a bomb in there!"
yelled Nash.
It was too late he didn't here them. He had
all ready past through the wall. As he
interred back in to the Laboratory the bomb
exploded. Time-blade looked across the
room, and everything began to move in slow
motion. He saw lighting and flashing, as it
helixes into a funnel, Then, Lainey leaped

51
out of the funnel, and cried out for Ethan. As
he looked through the eyes of Time-blade,
He saw Jae blade. She began to fade out of
existence.
"Wait! Wait! No, no it can't be!"
There was debris flying through the air. It
was passing right through him. He began to
have memories living at Drake Manor,
spending time with his dad, playing baseball
in the back, learning jiujutsu, kung fu, he
picked up the news paper, and was reading
the obituaries,” Elaine Ruth Baxter killed in
car crash.”
"Lainey, no, no it can't be! What have I
done?"
He dropped to his knees, put his face in his
hands, and everything began to run slowly.
The room grew dark from the smoke, and
soot of the blast. The wind blew through the

52
room, as he was kneeling on the floor. Two
bright lights came from out of nowhere. He
saw lighting helix into funnels.
Two figures stepped out, and walked over to
him.
"Time-blade, I'm the Wave, and this is
Relic."
"Dad, Grandpa Nash!"
"Yes, Ethan."
"You have given to us our lives, and we
have something for you." The Wave
extended his hand out to him.
"Take it my son. Think of it as a second
chance. Ethan, you can reverse the evens
that have led up to this point."
"Dad, what about you guys?"
"Ethan, what you have given us, no man can
change. Not even you. You will remember
everything that has changed. We have lived

53
out our lives. Now you must live out yours.
Now, Ethan, put the medallion on your chest
plate, and cover it with you right hand.
Think back to a time, and place. The
medallion will be with you, when you
return.
He covered it with his hand and everything
grew dark. A cyclone began to spin around
him. He began to spin with the cyclone his
armor began to come off piece by piece. He
began to see everything flash before his eyes
that had happened so far. Everything was
seen as if it were but a vapor. It grew dark
and darker. He could see a light haze before
his eyes.
March, two thousand fifty six, 3:59 AM
Ethan woke up with a shocked look on his
face.

54
He thought, "Shear terror!" He gripped his
chest with his left hand and looked for the
medallion. “It was just a dream." He thought
to himself.

To be continued.
