“It Takes a Village”

A Letter from theExecutive Director
Dear Friends,Excitement prevailed this past year in the life of The Restoration House and thefamilies with whom we journey. This report is a document of celebration as welook over the events of 2009 and how God has prepared us for everything he hasin store in the coming months. Please take a moment to read along. I think youwill find yourself celebrating right along with us!A deep sense of community has always been foundational to The RestorationHouse,as we understand that none of us were created to live life alone. Each of us needs
“a village” to
help uslive up to our full potential. The families of TRHare changing their futures with the help of their ever
growing “villages” of
support, friendship, and accountability. The poem below was written by a low-income single mother on her own journey of restoration, as she reflected on thevillage that came alongside of her.Day by day, we seeOur children begin to bloomMaking friends, running with lifeAnd soon we feel free to follow. The children are the onesWho show us the wayWe run to keep up with their futureBlessed to receive a second chanceTo be the person and parentWe knew we could be.It truly takes a villageNot only to raise a childBut to raise a person.- Amber ShearerIt is our prayer that you will
continually be blessed through your “village”.
Thank you so much for partnering with us in helping to restore single mothersand their children b
ack to God’s good intent for their lives.

Reflections

“I loved mentoring. It
challenged me to reachoutside of my comfortlevel. When I did I wasinspired by what I saw.Mothers with so muchworking against them
 –
as if they weremustering their wayupstream every day. When I compare it tomy life I feel inspiredthat these mothers canput one foot in front of
the other each day.”
-Christin York,Team Mentor"While we are stillgetting to know our
‘mom’, we are amazed
at the challenges thatshe has overcome, andthe extremely toughtimes she has faced--times she would not beable to make it throughalone, and because of the Restoration Houseshe does not have to.We have faith that ourmom will continue tosee the love of Godthrough relationshipswith her mentors andthat she will learn Godis faithful through thedaily miracles in herlife."-Hudson & RebeccaTeam Mentors
