During the Spring 2004 Florida Reading First school site visits, sta rom the Florida Center orReading Research (FCRR) determined that teachers may beneft rom classroom materials that would be immediately useul in implementing independent student center activities. In 2004-2005, a team o teachers at FCRR collected ideas and created materials or use inkindergarten and frst grade classrooms.Tere are three books:1. Phonological Awareness and Phonics Student Center Activities2. Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension Student Center Activities3. eacher Resource GuideTe frst two books are activity plans and activity masters ready or immediate use in classrooms.Te third book is an inormative guide oering important insight on dierentiated instructionand how to use the student center materials. In 2005-2006, similar materials or second and third grade classrooms were developed. Also in2006-2007, similar materials or ourth and fth grade classrooms were developed. When considering Florida’s ormula, 5 + 3 + ii + iii = No Child Let Behind, please note thateach instructional component is covered in the student center activities books. In addition, theactivities will directly support your eorts to provide eective initial instruction, because they  will help you to provide dierentiated instruction to meet the needs o every child.Te Student Center Activities (K-5), eacher Resource Guides, and accompanying ProessionalDevelopment DVDs can be accessed online at www.crr.org.I hope you and your students enjoy these activities,Marcia L. Kosanovich, Ph.D.Director o Curriculum and Instructional ProjectsFlorida Center or Reading Research
