About Achieve
Created by the nation’s governors and business leaders,Achieve, Inc., is a bipartisan, non-profit organization thathelps states raise academic standards, improve assessmentsand strengthen accountability to prepare all young peoplefor postsecondary education, work and citizenship. Achievehas helped more than half the states benchmark their aca-demic standards, tests and accountability systems againstthe best examples in the United States and around theworld. Achieve also serves as a significant national voice forquality in standards-based education reform and regularlyconvenes governors, CEOs and other influential leaders atNational Education Summits to sustain support for higherstandards and achievement for all of America’s schoolchildren. In 2005, Achieve co-sponsored the National EducationSummit on High Schools. Forty-five governors attendedthe Summit along with corporate CEOs and K–12 and post-secondary leaders. The Summit was successful in making thecase to the governors and business and education leadersthat our schools are not adequately preparing students forcollege and 21st-century jobs and that aggressive action willbe needed to address the preparation gap. As a result of theSummit, 29 states joined with Achieve to form the AmericanDiploma Project Network — a coalition of states committedto aligning high school standards, assessments, graduationrequirements and accountability systems with the demandsof college and the workplace. For more information, visit Achieve’s Web site atwww.achieve.org.
