Each month we present a new technological tool suitable for any classroom.Comic strips are a great way to appeal to studentsand are effective for both text-based and visuallearners. You could summarise a topic, explain a complexidea – the possibilities are limitless. It is also easyto embed a bit of humour in a comic, making itmore memorable for the students.Better still, your students could make their owncomics – either as a classroom activity or as ahomework task.Toondoo (http://www.toondoo.com/
) is a free online comic creator and is incredibly simple touse – just drag and drop backgrounds, characters, speech bubbles and more. The finishedcomics can be downloaded as a picture or embedded in a website or blog. The school has also purchased a site license for Comic Life (http://plasq.com/comiclife
), acomic creator installed on most of the computers in school (and available for installation onstaff laptops). It makes comic creation even simpler because students don’t need an extraaccount – and if you book Room 27 (the Apple Mac suite) the students can use the built-inwebcams to star in their own comic creations!
