Data drives many of thedecisions that are being madein HISD. We have to knowwhere we are and think aboutwhere we want to be in order to make a difference instudent performance. Thespring 2009 TAKS resultsindicate that the district ismaking steady gains towardreaching academic goals. The state minimum passingstandards are as follows:Reading/ELA (70%), Writing(70%), Social Studies (70%),Mathematics (55%), andScience (50%).HISD’s data indicates that our students are performing wellabove the minimum acceptablestandards. Since every subjectand subgroup in the districtperformed above 75% in 2009,the district earned aRecognized Rating from theTexas Education Agency. Inorder to earn an Exemplaryrating, each subject andsubgroup must be above 90%.During the 2009-2010 schoolyear, administrators will beworking toward thefollowing five goals set bythe board of trustees: 1)Improve student test scoreson TAKS, ACT, and SAT 2)Align curriculum andinstruction with college andemployer expectations 3)Develop a facilities plan thataddresses a safe, modernlearning environment for allstudents and staff members4) Maintain and develop aconservative approach tofunding a qualityeducational program 5)Attract and retain qualitypersonnel.
